  • NFL Game of the Week DEADLINE DISCUSSION THREAD HERE!!!

I need to put an end to this ridiculous banter of why are there deadlines in this contest!!!

Back in 2008 there was a deadline of:
DEADLINE 1230 PM EST SUNDAY - NO EXCEPTIONS - POSTING FORUM TIME!!

Do search of the thread "NFL GAME OF THE WEEK CONTEST - $1500" that was being run by Jeff (it's around page 72 as of today).

In 2009 there was no deadline, but also no totals.

In 2010, we had a spirited discussion on why we should have a deadline of one hour before kickoff each day. The concensus was to have the deadline to draw traffic to Bettorsworld by posting picks early.

There is a contestant this year that participated in the 2010 contest and had absolutely no issue posting on Sundays.

As always, we open up the rules for this contest for discussion before each season. If anyone adds wants add comments to existing rules or make new rules, then is the time.

If anyone can add valuable imput on why there should be no deadline and how it will benefit Bettorsworld and add traffic to the website, please let us know and we all will consider it.

In the meantime, rules do not change during the season. I don't see the NFL considering scrapping the kickoff rule from 35 because there are too many touchbacks from kickoffs.

There is no discussion. Never was.......

Rules are Rules I have been here for many years since 1998 and have never missed a dead line, this subject is not up for debate.

You dont like the deadlines then so be it, it is what it is

You may like them more if you get in under the time allowed to play.........

Shouldn't be a discussion at all. They waited until the last minute to milk the latest lines and it burned them. Tough. Now they know not to do that.
How many other people followed the rules? It's not that hard.

There is no way traffic is increased by applying a cutoff to a contest. If anything volume would increase by allowing posters to post before kickoff. Think about it, readers would return multiple times in hopes that a "hot" poster has posted, which in return would drive volume. Is it weird in 2009 the same contest for the same week had 103 poster and 2694 views and in 2010 had 102 posters and 1493 viewers. So I have to ask the question how does the deadline create demand?

Just maybe someone tracks a certain handicapper to make bets. It's called Betters World. It's a contest to
determine the best. Also someone can wait for the weather report till the last minute to make a under pick for
snow; heavy rains or bad weather. The Vegas line can adapt, but our line is locked in about Wednesday. If you push it too kickoff, someone will cry because the internet locked-up or they posted 1 minute late and
              wants sympathy.

FSU, how does a deadline benefit anyone?

"if anyone can add valuable imput on why there should be no deadline and how it will benefit Bettorsworld and add traffic to the website, please let us know and we all will consider it."

Tax, there is no way a deadline benefits Bettorsworld's traffic. Where did you come up with this? So it's a rule, but what value does it add?
To me it seems traffic was higher when there wasn't a rule, odd?

I know and expect to get the answer back, a rule is a rule.... but what's the need for more useless rules?

Why dnt u stop answering questions with questions...Im pointing out that you keep crying about the monday night deadline...Do u not want a deadline for monday night?? or do u want people to have to pick there monday play before the deadline on sunday morning??? WHAT DONT YOU LIKE ABOUT THE DEADLINE?? can u just answer that

I am saying the monday deadline benefits the people who missed the sunday deadline so they can still post a play and not have to eat a loss

Game time should be the dead line.

I don't like the deadline because it doesn't serve a purpose.

The idea was that with a one hour deadline, all picks would be in and everyone would have an hour to look over everyone's picks to make their own plays.

Otherwise, many would wait until the last minute and that wouldn't leave enough time to look over everyone's picks and still get your plays in. And a lot traffic that would come during that last hour, would no longer bother to come, knowing that a lot of picks were not in. It's a reasonable argument. We're trying to think of Bettorsworld. Maybe it's not a lot of traffic.

A last minute deadline would be brutal for the scorekeeper. With the Noon deadline, he can just draw a line at Noon Eastern and any posts after that that are not MNF games are late. With no deadline he would have to check and make sure each entry after 1 PM was in on time.

Now what purpose would a last minute deadline serve? It wouldn't being in any more traffic. Those posting during the last hour would have posted earlier. And anyway, we are concerned about attracting new viewers. Traffic may come to look at our picks if they are all in an hour early and they have time to study them.

And we have the MNF bailout for those who space out.

Year over year do the views not tell the story?

                            Great debate.....

So, why does the Hilton Football Contest have a deadline of 11AM on Saturday for it's Sunday games??? Do they have contestants complain that the deadline is Saturday not Sunday??

Look at the line movement from the original posting of point spreads earlier in the week to the Bally's sportsbook final odds at kickoff on Sunday:

                            Sun 10/2 207 Detroit Lions 1 Over 46
                            1:00 PM 208 Dallas Cowboys -1 Under 46 : Dallas -2.5

Sun 10/2 209 New Orleans Saints -6.5 Over 46.5 : New Orleans -8.5, this line ran up from -7 an hour before kickoff to -8.5
                            1:00 PM 210 Jacksonville Jaguars 6.5 Under 46.5

                            4:15 PM 230 San Diego Chargers -7 Under 45

                            Sun 10/2 231 Denver Broncos 13 Over 47
                            4:15 PM 232 Green Bay Packers -13 Under 47

                            Sun 10/2 233 New England Patriots -4 Over 54.5 : New England -6
                            4:15 PM 234 Oakland Raiders 4 Under 54.5

                            Sun 10/2 235 New York Jets 3.5 Over 41
                            8:25 PM 236 Baltimore Ravens -3.5 Under 41 : Baltimore -5.5

All the other games had no line movement.

If we had no deadlines, then maybe the odds should be posted on Sunday morning instead of Wednesday?

Yes, I am asking questions w/o answers.

Like I've been told in the past, you can't please all of the people all of the time! Isn't democracy great!!? Also, 96 players made the deadline! So, our success deadline success rate for this week was 98.96%. Superior majority has no issue with deadlines for this contest!

Bottom line, this is a free contest to enter and Bettorsworld is ponying up the cash without a requirement to open up a sportsbook account. Once again, without Jeff we would not have the enjoyment of this free contest.

Oh, about the views, you can go back and look at prior threads today which will increase the view count. View counts are continuously increasing each day a thread is looked at. It doesn't stop at the last view.
