      Tax

As we briefly discussed at the end of last season, suggest that rule 8. Not posting a pick will be counted as a loss. be dropped. Since rule 9. Win (1 point), tie/push (1/2 point), and loss (0 point) will be recorded and posted generally no later than Thursday morning of the concluded week. establishes the fact with the exception of a possible tiebreaker that the highest total of points after the SuperBowl results in the top 3 placings.

Just my 2 cents, whatever is easy for you.

Lax, that would be easier, however, a concern I have on the standings would have others question why the record does not reconcile to the numbers of weeks. It would give a 'true' record of actual picks. Though those that bail out during the season really are not in it to monitor the history of their picks.

        For example after week 10:
        Capper A is 7-3
Capper B missed week 1 and is 7-2

Then you might have other knuckleheads say that winning percentage should be put into play, which would open up another can of worms.

Just my additional 2 cents on top of yours.

The main issue is to prevent any confusion or needless bickering, considering those that post are not regularly around here to discuss this annual open forum!

I personally like the rule if you miss a week and it is counted a loss for both college and Pro. I agree with Tax that it is easier in the long run.. I do however keep up with everyone's true record for my own benefit and suggest highly everyone else does..A really good capper could slip by you if you don't do this.. However it is 12ish and I have been known to be way out there at these hours..lol

For historical record-keeping, I would also favor not counting a no-play as a loss, but I see the reasons for counting it. 15-5 should not beat 15-6, even in a tie-breaker, but it wouldn't as long as the rules say total number of wins, not winning % or wins vs losses.

line #3 will need a little editing as every week now has a thursday game.
With the exception of week #1 which has a wednesday game since they moved it back from the original thursday night.

                    all else seems fine.

                    Line 8 should remain.
ANd line 9 actually means only positive numbers are used for ranking. Meaning there is no 15-5 only 15. Losses = 0 not 1 loss or -1 or anything like that. So, people can't have beef saying 15-5 and 15-4 because there is only 15. Not that it matters especially if it's left as written.

IN. I like the rules the way they have been. No pick is a loss, and keep our own records if its important to you.

                        Here is an idea.

Let me see if I can find my actual databases from prior years.

What I could do for historical purposes is post individual records at the beginning of the season without the guarantee loss. Keep the same in-season records and then at the end of the season update the standings. Right now I am pressed for time with updating another master database so it might not happen until Labor Day weekend. Or I could email the spread to someone else who could pick it apart and post regular season and post season actual records as well.

In all honesty, if someone is interested in playing in this contest they will play it through to the end. Also, we do have the record keeping status on another link outside this site.

                        Just my 2 cents.

Tax Man you run a great contest I like it the way it is, It's pretty simple rule 8 is, enter the contest and fail to make a pick it is a loss, the up side is after 3 missed picks you will be out of the contest anyway.

A loss is considered zero points so I really do not follow the real record thing some are referencing to. Most players are in this contest for the long haul. How many dropped out last year Tax using the starting number and ending number of players? My guess would be 10.

                          Good luck this year.

Carpet - FYI. Last year's 2011 NFL contest indicated the following: If he has the time, Tax can affirm these numbers.

I noted that approximately 105 (plus or minus 2) contestants started in week 1 of the NFL contest and for the final week 21 only 27 contestants posted a pick including the leaders. Nothing unusal about this. As in all the other contests on this site, the drop off rate by the final couple of weeks is normally 60% to 75% of the contestants who don't have a chance to place.

Wow that is a amazing number 70 % drop off rate. Further illustrates that the no pick rule counted as a loss is a moot point long term as it pertains to this contest.
