  • ILLINOIS moves to 10-0-Illinois thoughts Mens Basketball

Illinois moves to 10-0 after defeating # 13 at Gonzaga 85-74 as a 12 point dog.

No team goes into Gonzaga and beats them on their home court unless they have something special. The Zags are 109-7 in the Kennel (UPDATE 109-8 after this game)

This game vs Gonzaga does not show how good this Illinois team is, but it does show how good they can be.

Illinois has Senior leadership with the guards, Brandon Paul is a BIG TIME player and in my opinion one of the best guards in the country.

The big chink on Illinois is lack of post presence down low especially on defense, Coach Groce believes the first pass attempted to a inside player must be disrupted with defense. And I have got to tell you this Illinois defense has incredible active hands on defense.

Illinois will also use a Zone Defense something that no coach can find film on over the last 8 years, Under Weber Illinois never ever played a Zone Defense (I think Weber had to much Gene Keady in him to play a zone)

A zone defense when employed by Illinois confuses a lot of teams because they cannot scout against it so far. While Illinois may employ a zone defense in a game it is only used as a counter measure and not often.

The Illini are a very good shooting team. When Coach Groce took over a short 8 months ago one of he first things he did was work on shooting. Here is what he did:

The coach installed a machine onto the basket that recorded number of shots attempted and made ,each player was given a special 4 digit code to log the stats. The minimum number of shots that were mandated for each player to take was 10,000 over a 3 month period.

I can see a huge difference with Illinois shooting this year .

Do not be surprised my friends to see Illinois knock off # 1 Indiana this year in Big 10 play.

More to follow if you all want me to.

Can tell you this next week Illinois should be a Top 10 ranking and if you thought they were over rated at 13 then this ranking will cause you fits. Illinois was sneaking in under the radar now a HUGE target has been placed on their backs.

Let's see how they handle this.

Illinois at # 10 and they should be 12-0 heading into the Battle of the Arch with Missouri.

Keep your eye on this team, this Coach of Illinois will drive these players like Marines. I really like what I see with this team.
