I must respectfully disagree and look to get my valid play graded as a valid win which is was.

the rules are very clear. I read post one which ARE the official rules for every week.. note your rule #6 and rule #6b

the new rules that were made up in additional posts do not apply (the new rule made up in post #2 for example)

I'm sure it was just a mistake as there weren't many Saturday games this year so easy to get confused.

Try, I respectfully disagree with your response.

Unfortunately, I am in the running and my answer will probably cause some opinions to be one sided.

However, if you look at how this contest has been run over the past few years, it has been implied that once a game kicks off and there are later games, all picks must be in one hour prior to the start of any game.

Why is it that all Sunday games must be in before noon EST, when anyone can make a pick on a later game Saturday after the first game kicked off?

Go back two weeks ago, when there were two NFL games on Saturday. No one at all, had any problem with these rules.

I am sorry, even if I was not in first place, I still would say all picks would have to be in at 3:35 EST on Saturday, it's posted with the lines.

As it is explicitly stated on the lines for this past Saturday, it was in effect for Week 16 and the same rules applied during Thanksgiving.

Our intention as a group has for the last few years has been if you are making a pick for a certain day, it must be posted one hour prior to the kick off for any game during the day. Hence, the NO EXCEPTIONS.

I am holding firm on my decision, it is graded as late and as a loss.

Chargette had the same thing happen earlier in the season, a late post on a Sunday happened.

Not to bust your balls or anything. I've run enough contests and I know how difficult it can be, but I'm afraid I might have exception to that decision if it had been me. The original signup/payment thread had rule 6b that stated "SATURDAY GAME: Pick must be posted one hour before scheduled kickoff time", and every single week of the contest up through Week 18 did state that same rule in the set of rules that were posted in the very first post in each pick thread. Even in the only week of the year that there actually was a Saturday game (Week 16), the very first post in that thread had the same rule 6b stating "b. SATURDAY GAME: Pick must be posted one hour before scheduled kickoff time." Considering that rule was posted each week all year long I would find it difficult to just ignore it in any judgement.
Playing devil's advocate one might ask, why did rule 6b say that in the first place? There is never a Saturday with only one game as there is on Monday and Thursday. So shouldn't the Saturday rule have read something similar to the Sunday rule? In hindsight it probably should have, but it read just like the Monday and Thursday rule. If someone has those rules memorized after seeing them for 18 weeks straight they might not even notice a contradictory rule in the next post like in Week 16 and this past week.

I also wanted to mention that the Chargerette comparison can't really be used as a valid comparison here because the Sunday rule is worded specifically.

Tax thanks for all the thoughts but I think you need to just make it unemotional and just follow your rule and be done with it. (this is not the Dallas Detroit pick up the flag situation there is a clear no exception rule on valid picks to go to!)

I have no problem with you respectively disagreeing on the official rules in place, you are putting in lots of time all year on this and other contests and yes you are a long time contest mod helpr, grader and do A+ work. not a doubt.

But the play per the rules is valid so please make that score change.

Rule 6 and 6b in post #1 of the rules page states it Clearly.

It cant really be interpreted with "well look 3 years ago..." or "look three weeks ago there was one Saturday game.." .that has nothing to do with the clearly stated rules. No exceptions.

this is a post up contest with all in for the same amount and nice prize and some fun and sharing cappin etc. if there is a no exception rule stated that is just the way it goes.

Just for the record, I was going by the rule in 6b myself by default. Just an hour before kick off for Saturday games.

I never really saw the rule exceptions and would have been late too if I chose not to make my pick earlier.

I remember looking quick at the main rules just in case I decided to wait or forgot to post.

Just my 2 cents on it if I was in try's shoes.

I know it's in bold, but I didn't take notice of the 3:35 PM deadline notice, as I'm sure these others didn't either.

In the regular rules above this 3:35 notice, it says, "SATURDAY GAME: Pick must be posted one hour before scheduled kickoff time." He did post more than "one hour before scheduled kickoff time."

I agree with dragon's point about how that Saturday rule should have been written differently all season.

I'm pretty sure any arbitrator would rule in favor of trytrytry due to Rule 6 being posted all year long.

It makes no sense why we don't allow picks on late games to be made one hour before kickoff. It still gives folks time to log onto BW and tail that play. Traffic to the site was the only reason we have that rule.

Actually I just saw the Saturday rule now , posted above the lines for this past week.

I see both sides of the issue now....I'm out as a arbitrator now!

                      That's a tough one.

But I did make my pick for the night game well before the first game, just in case!

Bottom line is we have two conflicting rules posted. One has been posted all year and the other is a late flag that has come in. Might have to pick that one up.

taxman to be clear at least for me this is not a factor at all for me. I dont care where you are in the standings. I wish you luck winning out through the superbowl.

No matter how the season standing play out I do not feel you being in the running would effect
your grading of plays versus the rules in week 18 or any week still to happen. Where you are in the standings and contest moderator has nothing to do with this. If you were in last place I would have brought up the same issue in the same manner. I am not trying to make you look impartial, bad or have any one sided opinions formed. You run great stuff here.

Ok, so, after reviewing the evidence...............

I get both sides of the issue. On the one hand, it's not as if the Saturday rule in bold was inserted at the last minute. It's just that there weren't any Saturday games up until the very end of the season, hence, no chance see it. Whereas, the Monday, Thursday, Sunday games have been posted all along because there have been games on those days.

I just don't want anyone to think taxman is creating rules on the fly. In fact, I went back and checked last years thread for week 18.

                              http://www.bettorsworld.com/web/foru...ball+game+week

The difference was, in that thread, in the first post with the official rules, there is no mention of SATURDAY picks, however, the BOLD rule above the lines states that the picks must be in by 330.

Had this happened LAST year, this might have been more difficult to rule on. The only posted rule about Saturdays in last years thread, was the BOLD rule above the lines. There was no mention of Saturdays in the official rules that are posted each week in the picks thread.

This year, the official pick thread rules that have been posted all year, specifically mention Saturday.

This is a simple oversight. What I think we learned here is that we need to make sure we include each specific rule in the initial posting of the rules. Sometimes, it takes an issue like this to bring an oversight into clear view. It happened, and now we see the oversight.

The fact that Woodee and widestrides weren't aware of the rule also puts it in perspective. I think most of the guys that play in the NFL now were toddlers when those two started posting and playing in contests here : )

I have to rule in favor of trytrytry here.

We'll chalk it up to an oversight and we'll be sure to include it in the main rules in the future.

Good luck the rest of the way!
