WEC 35 – VEGAS

AUGUST 3RD

After putting on a fight card that contained two of the most exciting MMA fight cards of the year, Jens Pulver vs Uriah Faber and Miguel Torres vs Yoshiro Maeda, the WEC is back at it with 3 title fights this Sunday, live on the Versus channel.

The title fights headlining the card feature the lightweight, welterweight, and light heavyweight champions.

WEC 35: AUGUST 3 IN LAS VEGAS
Venue: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Main Card Bouts and their odds:

Carlos Condit -600
Hiromitsu Miura +400

Brian Stann -450
Steve Cantwell +300

Jamie Varner -200
Marcus Hicks +160

Brian Bowles -205
DaMACio Page +165

-Carlos Condit vs. Hiromitsu Miura
Welterweight championship of the world

Looks like Hiromitsu Miura is next for the red hot Carlos Condit. Condit has been absolutely steamrolling through all of his opponents. Condit has not lost in two years, and has not taken a fight the distance either. He brings absolute ruthless aggression into the cage, and while Miura brings some legitimate power into the cage, I don’t think Condit is going to have a hard time with him at all.

Bring this guy to the UFC.

Prediction: Carlos Condit: Submission – Choke Round 2

-Brian Bowles vs. DaMACio Page
You may remember DaMACio Page as the Greg Jackson fighter that was featured in the first season of the TapouT show. since that time, Page found himself in the WEC, where he was a last minute replacement and ended up winning the fight. Now he gets Brian Bowles for his efforts. Bowles is 6-0 in his professional career, and has never gone the distance in a fight.

Page is a workhorse and brings a lot of experience into the cage, but I don’t feel that he is going to pull this one off. Both of these guys are well-rounded fighters, so I see this fight going to a decision.

Prediction: Brian Bowles – Unanimous Decision

-Brian Stann vs. Steve Cantwell
Light heavyweight championship

Brian Stann made a statement when he captured the light heavyweight title from Doug Marshall. He pounded the heavy-handed Marshall in 95 seconds to capture the WEC light heavyweight crown. He looked absolutely unstoppable, and that is unfortunate for Steve Cantwell. Stann is 8-0 with 8 KO/TKO’s to his credit. That is pretty amazing.

I am not really sure why this fight is happening. Stann has already beat Cantwell, and Cantwell has only won two fights since losing to Stann. It’s good that Cantwell has the opportunity to avenge a loss, but this fight will probably end up the same way the first fight did.

Prediction: Brian Stann – TKO – Round 1

-Jamie Varner vs. Marcus Hicks
Lightweight championship

The newly crowned lightweight champion of the has a tough task ahead of him in Marcus Hicks. Hicks is 10-0 and is a well rounded striker and submission fighter. Varner is much of the same, his boxing has really improved and he has pretty good submissions.

This fight is a tough one to call, and the odds will probably be pretty close. I am going to go with the champion on this one, because I think he will take the fight into the later rounds and outbox Hicks. Still, this fight should be pretty good and might be fight of the night.

Prediction: Jamie Varner TKO Round 4
