Alabama Football

2013 Preview

Odds and Schedule

It’s no surprise that Alabama is once again the favorite to win the BCS title in 2013. The Crimson Tide have won three of the last Four National Championship’s and look to extend their dominance even further. The scary thing for the rest of the nation is that they are returning 14 starters from last year’s squad. Sure, they’re losing three starters from the offensive line and guys like Dee Milliner are gone from the defensive side, but this is Alabama we’re talking about where new talent is always available at the flip of a switch.

The current odds for Alabama to win the BCS Title at 5 Dimes Sportsbook are +325, or, a little better than 3 to 1. Alabama’s 1st Game of the year is listed at 5 Dimes as well. They play Virginia Tech in Atlanta and  as of this writing almost 4 months prior to kickoff, they are whopping -22.5 point favorites. Very tempting eh?

2013 Alabama Football Schedule

Sept. 14 at Texas A&M
Sept. 21 vs. Colorado State
Sept. 28 vs. Ole Miss

Oct. 19 vs. Arkansas
Oct. 26 vs. Tennessee
Nov. 9 vs. LSU

Nov. 30 at Auburn

While the Crimson Tide will be losing three starters from the offensive line, they will also be returning the trio of AJ McCarron, T.J. Yeldon and Amari Cooper. With another year under their belts, this offense could be even better than they were a year ago. Not to mention, their Schedule will once again be pointing in their favor.

Alabama’s toughest task of the season will come early in just their second Game of the year at Texas A&M. The Aggies gave the Crimson Tide their only loss of 2012 which means Bama will be looking to get some revenge on Johnny Manziel and company. This Game may be at College Station, but the effect it has on the Game may not be all that great as seen last year when both of Texas A&M’s losses came at home. This Game will definitely be one of the best early season matches to watch. Can Manziel improve on last year’s success and will McCarron be able to call himself a top notch QB heading into the NFL? It could easily be a Top Five matchup with the winner getting the early head start to the SEC Title Game.

After that Game for Alabama, their Schedule is very similar to 2012 when they blew everyone out. They’ll only have three more road Games with all of them coming against bottom level competition. Their matchup with LSU will fall on Nov. 9, but it will be in Tuscaloosa and the Tigers are still lacking in the same areas they were a year ago which is why they aren’t considered a Top 10 team at the moment. If the Crimson Tide can win that Game, expect another BCS title on the horizon.

Of course, the SEC Championship Game will be huge, especially if they face off with Georgia again who is still writhing after last year’s loss. At most, Alabama will lose two Games this year and even that’s a stretch. No matter which players this team loses, they come back stronger due to Nick Saban’s recruiting. If McCarron isn’t a Heisman candidate and can’t carry Bama all the way in his senior season, it will definitely be considered a disappointment.
