Jets Panthers

Jets

vs.

Panthers

Week 15

NFL Pick

12/15/13

The Panthers look to rebound from a 31-13 loss to the Saints last week when they host Rex Ryan and his New York Jets on Sunday. The Panthers are currently -11 point favorites at betonline sportsbook with a total of 40.5. The public favors the Panthers with 66% of the action coming in on the Panthers at 5dimes.com and this is one instaNCe where we agree with the public.

The Jets are still mathematically alive for a playoff spot at 6-7. All they have to do, is beat the Panthers, Browns and Dolphins and finish 9-7, then get a little help from teams around the league. But we can help clear up any confusion right here and now about the Jets and the playoffs. They won’t win this week in Carolina. They won’t be making the playoffs.

The Jets are one of the worst teams in the NFL. The fact that they even have a mathematical chance in week 15 is kind of incredible, but chalk it up to the NFL and their current playoff format which keeps just about everybody in contention until very late in the year.

The Jets are a joke. Take a look at the Jets yards per point numbers on the road. Their offensive number is 21.1 and their defensive number is 10.6. Those are dismal numbers folks. That makes the Jets ypp differential on the road -10.5. The Panthers on the other hand, one of the best teams in the NFL, have an offensive ypp number at home of 12.7 and a defensive number of 27.3. That’s iNCredibly good and makes their ypp home differential +14.6. That makes the Panthers 25.1 points better than the Jets playing in Carolina. Wow.

All of Our models predictions have the Jets by at least 3 touchdowns and when you factor in that the Panthers are coming off a loss and truly are one of the better teams in the NFL this year, they’re going to be in a ugly mood looking to make a statement. Even if the Jets were able to stay close for a bit, that -18 turnover differential will no doubt come into play at some point and the Jets will manage to give the Game away.

We don’t like laying double digits in the NFL, but there’s no other way to go. This is a very good football team coming off a loss hosting a very bad football team. Rex Ryan’s fate is likely already sealed. The Jets would be crazy to keep this guy any longer. But just in case there’s any doubt remaining, this Game should go a long way towards erasing that doubt. Panthers -11
