    Weak opening card....all small plays

2* Penn State -16.5 over Akron - This game opened -23 at CRIS and dropped down as low as -15.5 at some spots. Penn State is the only way to look in this one. Akron in off a 7-6 season and has 17 starters returning. The zips figure to be in the thick of things in the MAC east division but once again we need to look at the class difference between the MAC and an elite conference like the Big 10. Last year Akron stepped up in class to play Purdue and were spanked 49-24. Last time Akron hooked up with Penn State was to kick off the 2004 season. The result? Penn St 48-10. Look for more of the same today.
2* Tennessee -1.5 over Cal - See write up here

2* Georgia Tech +7 over Notre Dame - It's important to watch the number closely on all these games. Public money on the Irish could create a little more value here. Everyone is touting ND as a potential National Champ this year. Maybe. We'll see. But let's face it, Notre Dames season last year and all the hoopla surrounding this team, came as a direct result of them ALMOST upsetting USC. Aside from that game the season was hardly impressive. They have their work cut out for them and need to make MAJOR improvements on the defensive side of the ball. Look, they beat the likes of Pitt, and Syracuse last year and LOST to Mich St while giving up 44 points!! We're not sold on the Irish at this point but this opener against Tech will tell us a little. Georgia Tech in off a 7-5 season last year with big wins against Auburn and Miami Fla while only losing to Georgia 14-7. They failed to show up against Va Tech early in the year and against Utah in their bowl game, but every other game was either a win or a close loss. They return 9 starters on offense and figure to be competitive once again this year. They performed well against the cream of the crop on their schedule last year and we expect more of the same this year. Think these Tech kids might be a little pumped up to open up against the Irish on National TV Saturday night? We'll take the touchdown here with what figures to be a live home dog in Georgia Tech.

2* Miami Fla -3 -107 (Betmania) over Florida State - When these two hook up, it's worth taking a peek at the dog as it's always close. 10-7 FSU last year. OT the year before that. a one point game in 2002. You get the picture. Figure more of the same this year as there's never a shortage of talent on either squad. But there's a couple of big motivational edges for Miami here. For starters they dominated last years game on both sides of the ball. FSU's TD came off a pick and Miami was knocking on the door with time running out and decided to settle for a game tying FG. Whoops. So Miami looking for a little revenge here. But perhaps even more of a motivational edge is the fact that Miami was embarrassed in their bowl game as they were pounded 40-3 by LSU. That loss sent shockwaves through the program and caused all kinds of off season moves by coach Larry Coker as he cleaned house getting rid of 6 assistants. Look for the Hurricane defense to dominate this one once again as Miami gets off on the right foot and gains a little revenge to boot. Canes -3!

During the year, check in often as we can release a play right up until kick off. We try to get plays posted well in advance, but sometime late info doesn't allow it. If you want to make sure you get them all, sign up for the Bettorsworld newsletter. All late info plays will be sent out to that list.
