    Couple Hides Illegal Gambling Money in Dirty Laundry

    PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island –– As reported by the Associated Press: “How a husband and wife stashed their cash from their alleged gambling operation in Hartford gives new meaning to the term `money laundering.’

    ”When the police raided the couple's apartment at 15 Springfield St. on Sunday, they reportedly found $32,933 buried under a mountain of dirty laundry. Special Services Inspector Frank Zammarelli dug through the unwashed pile on a hunch and uncovered the cash, The Providence Journal reported.

    ”…The thousands of dollars were apparently the take for a football gambling business allegedly run by Bountavy Phomsouvandar, 34, and his wife, Siamphone Sitthirath, 31. They were arrested, along with a Lowell, Mass., man who was inside and allegedly looking over the betting slips.

    ”…They walked in on Sitthirath while she was on the phone taking a wager, Casbarro said. Then they found Phomsouvandar in another room at a computer, looking over betting slips, he said…”
