  • Wednesday, October 15 - Side and Total WINNERS!

    Wednesday, October 15, 2003

Taking to the hill this afternoon for the Red Sox is veteran John Burkett who has pitched horridly against the New York Yankees during his career to say the least! Burkett will be hoping Game 6 will treat him better, erasing
his poor past performance numbers when facing the Yankees evening the series at 3-3 creating a game 7. This will be a big task at hand for Burkett heading into what will be a hostile atmosphere at Yankee Stadium. He is 0-6 with a ghastly 8.49 ERA in 11 career regular season appearances, including 10 starts against New York. Burkett was 6-6 with a 5.00 ERA in 17 road appearances, including six starts, this year. He is 0-3 with a 7.59 ERA in five career outings, including four starts, at Yankee Stadium. Overall
against the Yankees Burkett is an embarassing 1-6 lifetime. Definitely not the man I'd want taking the mound in a "Do or Die" game against this solid Yankee team who will be looking to turn the lights out on the Red Sox today
in front of their home crowd, putting them in the "Big Dance."

The Yankees will be sending Andy Pettitte to the hill, who has won both of his starts this postseason and boasts a 6-1 mark in eight career ALCS starts. Pettitte has bailed the Yankees out twice this postseason, following Game 1 losses in both the ALDS and this series, so you can definitely label him as a man who can win the big games in postseason play! Pettitte allowed Boston only two runs and nine hits over 6 and 2/3's innings in a 6-2 victory in Game 2 on Thursday. He is 13-5 with a 3.01 ERA in 22 career
regular season appearances against the Red Sox. Pettitte has pitched well at home this year in the Bronx, building an impressive record of 10-4 with a 3.78 ERA in 16 starts.

In this afternoon's game not only does the pitching favorably lean heavily towards the Yank's, but more troubles for Boston as their offense is simply
not getting the job done. Garciaparra has struggled mightily this postseason, going 2-19 in this series with just one RBI for the entire playoffs. Pretty much the same story behind Boston's "Big Bopper" Manny Ramirez owning a measly .115 batting average this postseason.

Look for a Yankee's win in a low scoring affair. The under is 8-2 in Hernandez' last 10 games when calling balls and strikes. The under is 11-1 in the Yankees last 12 overall. The last six meetings between the two clubs have played under.

Play the Yankees, and the UNDER and have yourself a winning double-play!

No write-up for game 7 of the Cubbies vs. Marlins series, but I don't see the Cubs bouncing back after last night's disastrous 8th inning allowing the Marlins to score 8. The goat will be baa'ing while watching the Marlins win
tonight as the big 'dog, to face the Yankees in the 2003 World Series. On the total, I see a repeat of last night's contest as runs will be tallied up to put this one OVER.

    RECAP: PLAYS FOR TODAY....
    -Yankees
    -Yankees game UNDER
    - Marlins
    - Marlins game OVER

    Good luck to all!
