  • MNF: This one decided long ago

Perhaps it was on draft day when Dallas passed on filling a big need with RB Steven Jackson. Perhaps it was when they let Troy Hambrick go. Or signed social security candidates Vinnie and Eddie. Or malcontent, underachieving Keyshawn.

Or perhaps you could look on the other side, where a young veteran was acquired, a stud RB to carry the load, a standout rookie safety to shutdown the big play.

If you were to score the offseason of these two teams in identifying needs and addressing them, clearly there is a knockout winner. Parcells, genius that he is, has Buddy Ryaned his team just as his new coach factor is just begining to wane.

Never in the history of football has a team received as much credit for getting destroyed in the opener and squeeking by a lousy Cleveland team than the Dallas Cowboys. Maybe, in part, they can thank the Redskins for doing their part in losing ugly to the New York Giants, who were overwhelming victors against those same Cleveland Browns yesterday.

The Joe Gibbs Redskins officially kick off the season tonight. A dress rehearsal against a laughably bad Tampa Bay team and an undressing in New York did little to force Gibbs to tip his hand. He still has so many cards up his sleeve, you could form a full deck with the remainders.

Tonight, the Skins only opposition is really themselves. If they don't win tonight, they certainly shouldn't look to blame the opposing team that is more huff than stuff.
