BOONE MOONE FOOTBALL FORECAST SATURDAY 1/14/06

    SEATTLE VS. WASHINGTON

When these two teams met at Fed Ex Field in Washington back on October 2, 2005, the Redskins came out on top 20-17 in overtime......The reason for the big spread this time around is not because it's the playoffs or that they'll do it in Seattle this time, but the Seahawks are quite frankly in a different gear right now.......The emergence of Joe Jurevicius, tight end Jerramy Stevens (who is finally becoming the player the Seahawks thought he would be when they took him in the 1st round four years ago) and the play of middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu will be the main difference in this one.

The Redskins have played with a lot of heart throughout the year indeed, but that win last week in Tampa may have taken it's toll on an already tired team......Couple that with the fact that they must travel to the opposite coast and contend in a frenzied atmosphere of playoff starved Seahawk fanatics, and it spells a long afternoon for the hogs......Look for this one to be over before it starts......I'm lookin' for a "merciful" Seattle victory in the area of 27-10 or 27-7.......Holmgren's no idiot......He's not gonna go deep into the playbook when he's got bigger fish to fry next weekend.

    NEW ENGLAND VS. DENVER

Many different angles on this one.......The way the public is going on this one simply shows the power of the media at their best.....How many times this week have you heard that the "Patriots have their swagger back"?.........Of course they do, that's just typical of an ingenious coach like Bellechick, always makin' do with what he's got......But is it gonna be enough to erase the embarrasing 28-20 loss at Invesco field they suffered back on October 16, 2005?.........O.K, O.K, the neersayers on the Brady Bunch Bandwagon will quickly offer that the Patriots were playing with many key players out on that one, but the game quite honestly wasn't nearly as close as the final score indicates......Brady passed for 299 yards, most of it after the Broncos opened up a 21-3 lead, and the running game was pretty much invisible (can anyone outside of Boston name a Patriot running back not named Corey Dillon?)........Sure, the Patriots are the 2-time defending champs, albeit after beating two far inferior teams by 3 points each.....Yes, things happen to go their way when it matters and they concoct some pretty darn effective game plans when the chips are down, but the gut feeling here is that midnight will strike for this year's "Cinderella" right here in Denver, and I think they were available at 18-1 or at least 12-1 to win it all as late as mid-October for the sole reason that there are holes in this team that will become evident on Saturday......Namely, their non-existent pass defense.......No prediction on a score in this one, just that it won't differ much from when the two teams met earlier this year.

Will post Sunday's picks on Friday night.....Good Luck.

    ;)
