It would be one hour before your game starts.

Just need to right the rules to clearly make that statement and have that understanding.

Hey Guys - is it football season already

        Here's my 2 cents.

I am in favor of the 12 noon cutoff for several reasons, most of which have been posted here already.

        1) People love to stop in and see who the leaders like. It's not likely they will check back later in the day if the guy they are looking for doesn't have anything posted early. People make their rounds before kickoff and then go on with their day.

        2) traffic. Yes, that is one of the reasons for having the contests.

        3) It's MUCH easier for the record keeper if there is an early deadline......and record keeping is no easy task.

        4) Woody mentioned the line swings......that's BIG in my opinion. Some guys like to wait until the last possible minute and can gain an advantage by taking advantage of late injury news, etc. That's good in the real world, but for a contest like this, I don't like it.

The Hilton contest has been going on in Vegas for many years, and before the Hilton Contest, there were others, like the Castaways contest (anyone remember that one?)

They have a noon deadline on Friday......this way, they get traffic coming into their sportsbooks all weekend to look and see who the leaders picked......smart move.

Here is what I would propose -

        12 noon est deadline.

if deadline is missed, your pick HAS to be on the Monday night game, no if ands or buts, and it HAS to be in by midnight on Sunday.

Deadlines are never a problem......until someone misses one. Then it's, "well, that deadline sucks, why do we do it that way, etc.etc...."

When we all went to kindergarten for the first time, and they said it started at 8AM, we may have thought that sucked, but we all showed up.......those were the rules

        ****ONE MORE THING TO CONSIDER
This is the internet......sites do go down. Especially the first week or to of football when the servers are smoking. Don't wait until the last minute - if we want to put something in the rules that allows users to email me PRIOR to the deadline if there is a tech problem, I'm ok with that.

I agree with Jeff. I usually don't have time to sit around on Sunday waiting for picks if I want to check them out. I usually have to do it in the morning, and then the sunday is taken over without much decision on my part.

If you want to play the contest, you usually know what your pick is by at least saturday night, and usually earlier so an early deadline shouldn't matter.

And if there a thursday game, it just has to be played at least an hour before kickoff?

I think thats fair to all in my mind. And then if you miss, you have MNF as a back up plan.

Jeff, I was looking forward to your input.

It was very beneficial, and I agree for all Sunday games, deadline is NOON EASTERN.

Bitch and complain all you want, but you have MNF as your CYA play.

I'll finalize the rules one last time.

Jeff, when this is ready to go, can you put a sticky to the rules?

            Thanks!

I like the early deadline rule also and lobbied for it last year as well for the reasons already stated. People will bitch about it, I guarantee. Screw 'em. Have some balls and make a pick without having to see what the weather's like 2 minutes before game time, or waiting for the late services to release their games so you can weasel out and use someone else's pick.

                  I just want to confirm:

Thursday games are in play, just as long as the pick is posted one hour before kickoff.

For Sunday games, all games, including 1PM, 4:05PM, 4:15PM and Sunday night football must have the pick posted by NOON Eastern time, no exceptions.

If the Sunday deadline is missed, the play for Monday Night Football must be posted by Sunday at 11:59PM EST

                  All in favor?

Sounds good, now that Jeff has registered his opinion. The only possible suggestion would be to make the Monday Night deadline one hour before MNF game time, just to be consistent? Not a biggie, but maybe someone is gone for the weekend and not back till Monday.

Taxman, I'm compiling the all-time records and had a question for you. If someone stopped posting, did you give them losses for the rest of the season? That's fine for the contest, but I won't penalize them for their all-time record.

                      Wide,

For your compiliation, I gave the cappers a loss for no picks, after 3 missed weeks, I removed them from the contest. If you recall, we generally start with about 80-90 participants and end the season with around 50.

It was just a pain in the ass to keep the non-participants listed when they no longer visited BW.

I sort of looked at it as the MLB batting title, minimum at bats minimum picks to make the list.

So, those who have been listed at the conclusion of the season, assume they did make picks for the entire season and if they missed three or less weeks, those missed picks counted as losses.

                        Taxman,

That's good. I don't worry about the short term visitors either. If one of our leaders missed a week or two or three, he can contact me an I would subtract the loss(es) from his long term record.

That's another thing - let's let everyone pick right through the Super Bowl. We had always done that whether we were in contention or not. Guys like to finish it out.

Should be a fun season. A lot of teams have a shot at it. Saints were 20-1 last year.

                                X, You got it dude!

You're the master, so why not follow. Plus, it is just a pain in the ass matching everyone up in the database. If you can't play every week, you're gone!

I'm really not looking forward to my trip to Houston this week. Too much work to do to break away and watch the Cubbies lose!

Someday I will make sure to look you up and check out that little ole boat of yours!
