    Hey Boys:

I have last year's instructions which did not result in any problems. I also posted the lines and instructions last year and am willing to do so again this year. However, if some else wants to post the lines, I'll step aside.

Last year, there was a little hic up on the final BCS Championship game where the leaders should submit their final selections. I'll include the tie breaking info in the instructions.

    Thanks for checking with Jeff.

    The Boys:

The problems, I have with posting the picks all at one time are:

    1) Player injuries and suspensions, especially the latter "suspensions". Players being suspended for negotiating with NFL agents, poor grades hidden throughout the season and revealed in late December, missing curfews because of party time at some of the bowl locations, and some teams who don't even want to be there.

    2) Coaches being fired or accepting another head coaching job, therefore impacting the team morale.

    3) Lines are affected by the above.

Just my opinion, I'll go with the majority.

you forgot to add all the coaching changes going on at Offense, Defense and Head Coaches. I have seen 10 games already where this is a factor.

We cant sit back and wait for the next shoe to drop in a contest post the as they are and lets do our home work,

    Dragon - Carpet

Dragon - thanks for volunteering. Scorekeeping would be great.

Carpet -you asked "how many games are you thinking? "

I'll post the 35 scheduled Bowl games next in this thread.

For board input, do you want to eliminate some of the lesser (tidy toilet bowl games)?

I realize that the Mock Hilton and Weekly NFL contests are still going on and the scheduled bowl games will invlove 18 individual dates from Dec.17. 2011, thru Jan 9, 2012. Will this be to much clutter on the board?" Therefore, only go with the weekend, and BCS Bowls. With XMAS and New Year's on Sunday, the weekend holiday is extended to Monday.
    OR
Simply just include all 35 bowl games. Whatever.

    Input welcome.

I think 18 might be too small....maybe at least 20? Here's 10 that can be scratched IMO.

    Here's an alternative to consider.

Eliminate all the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday scheduled bowl games, but not any of the scheduled BCS games that fall on a weekday - Sugar and Orange Bowl games are exempted.

This would now involve about 21 or 22 bowl games and 11 individaul dates vs all 35 games scheduled on 18 individual dates.

    Input welecome.

OK, with your above schedule, the contest would not start until Dec. 22, Thursday (Las Vegas Bowl - ASU vs Boise St). Still would end up with about 14 individual dates. Any suggestions how the scheduled games should be posted? That is, group several individual dates together. If thats the case, instructions on deadlines for posting before kickoffs would have to be clearly clarified. As you know, no matter how clear you state the posting deadlines, someone always has a problem with it.

    Input welcome.

This alternative has been discussed in the past for previous contests. The argumnent against it has been, the Bettorsworld site would not benefit from the site hits that it currently receives from these contests.

Another alternative that is available for consideration.

Can go ahead to include all 35 games on 10 individual dates, instead of 18 individual dates. This would reduce the clutter of posts on the board due to the ongoing Mock Hilton and NFL Weekly Contests. Bowl dates that would be grouped together are:

    Dec. 20, 21, & 22 (3 games)
    Dec. 24 & 26 (2 games)
    Dec. 27, 28, & 29 (6 games)
    Jan. 3 & 4 (2 games)
    Jan. 6, 7, & 8 (3 games)

The following proposed rule would apply to selecting the above games:

All picks must be POSTED ONE HOUR prior to the scheduled start of the FIRST GAME that will be played on that day.

    AND
When scheduled Bowl games are grouped together, e.g., Dec. 27, 28, & 29 all of the picks must be posted ONE HOUR prior to the scheduled start of the FIRST GAME in the posted thread. PLEASE READ THIS RULE CAREFULLY! This is for ease of scorekeeping.

    Input welcome.

I would have said grouping is better as well.
That way the last group of bowls will have clear leaders, maybe the final 3 bowls in a group, and those picks could be emailed and posted after the deadline for the leaders.

    Here are the rules:

    1)Pick SIDES ONLY! No totals.
    2) Dec 18th thru Jan 10th Bowl game wins will be scored as follows:
    - BCS Championship Game win - 3 pts
    - BCS Bowls: Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, and Orange wins - 2 pts
    - All other lesser Bowl wins from Dec 18th thru Jan 9th - 1pt
    3) All ties will be worth 1/2 point regardless of when the game is played!
    4) The tiebreaker, if necessary, will be the combined total score of the BCS Championship Game.
    5) Bowl games and LV Hilton lines will be posted 1-2 days prior to their scheduled start date.
    6) All picks must be POSTED ONE HOUR prior to the scheduled start of the FIRST GAME that will be played on that day. PLEASE READ THIS RULE CAREFULLY! This is for ease of scorekeeping.

Last year and the year before all 30 plus Bowl games were included in the contest. In both years, there was a separate thread for each individual day the games were scheduled (19 in all last year). The issue this year is with the Mock Hilton Contest in addition to the weekly NFL Contest, will the same format used last year result in too much clutter on the board.

Perhaps NOT. On the other hand, is it too much for the score keeper to deal with?

Will someone be specifically appointed to be abusive and a general a$$hole to the contestants? I don't think Carpet, FSU, or myself will feel comfortable participating without this element. I know of someone who can fill that role with experience. Just a thought.

    The Boys

Since yesterday, looks like 3 alternatives have surfaced for the College Bowl Contest 2011-2012. The 3 are:

    1) Follow the same format as last year and post all 35 of the bowl games on the 18 scheduled dates from Dec. 17. 2011, thru Jan 9, 2012.

    2) Post all 35 of the bowl games on 10 scheduled dates from Dec. 17. 2011, thru Jan 9, 2012 this would involve grouping together several scheduled dates of games, e.g., Dec. 20. 21, & 22 (3 games); Dec. 24 & 26 (2 games); Dec. 27, 28 & 29 (6 games) etc.

    3) Eliminate the number of the lesser prestigious Bowl games by 10 14 games; therefore, likely end up with about 21 25 games for the contest.

From what I gather from this thread, no one has a problem with scoring Bowl Wins as follows:
BCS Championship Game win - 3 pts
BCS Bowls: Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, and Orange wins - 2 pts
All other lesser Bowl wins - 1pt
All ties will be worth 1/2 point regardless of when the game is played.

Let this hang out there for a few more days for comment, and well finalize the format by Sunday, Dec. 11.

Once again, thanks for contacting Jeff for the approval of the prize $$ and of course THANK YOU Jeff.
