Tracking the No. 1 Team in the Country

The Royal Post returns to gridiron action in efforts of building your bankroll, as we continue to follow the No. 1 team in the country. As well, we take a look at some NFL action in this weekend edition.

    (1) Ohio State @ Michigan State

The last time Ohio State (6-0 SU & 5-1 ATS) and Michigan State (3-3 SU & 2-4 ATS) strapped it up the Buckeye's won and that victory sparked a current 14 game win streak owned by the scarlet and gray which is the longest in the nation.

The Buckeyes have kept that streak intact this season, ripping off six consecutive SU wins, including three over ranked opponents. The last Ohio State team to begin the season 6-0 was the '02 National Championship team.

The Buckeyes again appear to be a championship-caliber team. They are averaging 32.8 ppg and 386.7 yards this season, led by senior QB Troy Smith, whose 170.6 passer rating leads the Big Ten. In last weeks non-cover victory Smith complete 17 of his 20 passing attempts. The completion percentage of 85% was the third-best mark in team history.

The Buckeyes failed to cover the spead for the first time this year in that contest, but they are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a SU win, and on the road they've been profitable with a 5-0 ATS mark in their last 5 away games.

Ohio State leads the all-time series over Michigan State 24-12, including an 11-5 advantage in East Lansing, and has won four consecutive meetings SU and are 3-0 ATS in the last 3 clashes. The Buckeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a road favorite.

The Spartans haven't been as successful at the ticket window where they are a dismal 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a home underdog.

Michigan State started the season 3-0 SU, but the come from behind victory posted by Notre Dame back on Sept. 23 began a three game skid for the Spartans who have dropped their last 3 games. The Spartans are a struggling team and now must face the best team in the country who should have no problem taking the cash in a victory cover.

    Notable game trends:

    - Buckeyes are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite of 10.5 or greater.
    - Buckeyes are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games as a favorite.
    - Buckeyes are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 conference games.
    - Buckeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
    - Buckeyes are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
    - Spartans are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
    - Spartans are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
    - Spartans are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October.
    - Buckeyes are 3-0 ATS in their last 3 meetings.
    - Favorite is 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

Prediction - Ohio State 34 Michigan State 13

Note: Central Michigan (6-0 ATS) and East Carolina (5-0 ATS) are the only remaining NCAA teams who have yet to drop the cash this season. Teams that have yet to make it to the ticket counter includes: Fresno State (0-5 ATS), San Diego State (0-5 ATS), Louisiana Tech (0-4 ATS) and Marshall (0-4 ATS).

    NFL Home Cookin' Denver Style

The Denver Broncos try to stretch their home SU winning streak to 13 games when they meet the winless Oakland Raiders (0-4 SU & ATS) Sunday night on NBC.

The Raiders are the last team to beat the Broncos in the regular season at home. But the chance of that happening again seems unlikely.

Denver (3-1 SU & 2-2 ATS) has outscored opponents 284-140 in winning 12 straight regular-season games at home, including Monday night's 13-3 cover win over previously-unbeaten Baltimore Ravens. The victory tied the Broncos with Seattle for the longest current home winning streak in the NFL.

The run is also tied for the second-longest in franchise history. The Broncos, who fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home in the AFC championship game in January, haven't lost at Invesco Field in the regular season since a 25-24 defeat to Oakland on Nov. 28, '04.

Oakland is 53-36-2 against Denver, but the Broncos have outscored the Raiders 161-66 in winning five of the last six meetings SU and are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall..

The Raiders are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games and are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings vs. Broncos.

    Notable game trends:

    - Home team is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
    - Road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
    - Favorite is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings.

    Prediction - Oakland 10 Denver 31
