  • If you were asked to name a sportsbook.....

    I would admit that sportsbook names help lure clients. If someone will be given a chance to name one or even thinking of opening one in the future, what is in your mind?

    Form follows function. In other words, the name is ultimately immaterial. Look at the successful businesses that simply use someone's name. For example, how about Wendy's (burgers), Misses Field's (cookies), or Vons (supermarket). You could call a new sportsbook "Joe's Joint" and if it was a solid book, the name wouldn't matter.

    However, if I had a sportsbook I'd name it "Jupiter." Why Jupiter? Because Jupiter is the planet, according to astrology, that rules gambling and speculation. And as a former professional astrologer, I can tell you that the planet Jupiter is prominent in the charts of virtually all sportbettors.

      I should have mentioned the English books--Bowman's Victor Chandler, William Hill--that prove simply using a person's name for the book is good enough.

        Reno - Jupiter sounds solid and a good name but if you'd to ask me, first thing it comes to my mind, Jupiter is far far away. In case of a "breakdown" there goes my money.

            Anyone know if there is a 'patron saint' of gambling?

              So far I found;

              CAMILLUS DE LELLIS, (1550-1614), patron saint of hospitals, nurses, the sick, and those afflicted with the addiction of gambling

              "Camillus Casino and Sportsbook"? has only games of pure chance -- roulette, craps, nfl etc which would all pay true odds so over the long term nobody wins or loses. No doubt people would still sink by way of bad money management even with no juice to get 'em.

                Reno,

                There is already a Jupiter's, who, btw, are the evil entity that blocked yankee types from Centrebet, who they now possess
