I may be posting this a bit prematurely (I have just sent a memo to Carib Sports), but a check I requested from Carib Sports for the Superbowl winnings was cashed on 2/4 and I just received an electronic statement that the check was returned on 2/11. Needless to say I am very unhappy. I have had no problems with any of the offshore sites; Betmaker, Intertops, Carrib, but mistake or not I'm upset. Obviously I will be calling both my Bank and Carib on Monday, but I wanted to post this to see if anyone else may have had similar problems ever?

Carib Sports Cleared as bank messes up

A large double endorsed check should be taken to a bank officer for approval - if it is deposited in an ATM for example your bank will return it to you.
However, that is probably not the case here as the bank sends the check to you by certified mail within 24 hours.
After last years Super Bowl I actually had this happen with 2 different books. The reasons I was given were plausible (you all might remember the bank problems last year caused by the feds cracking down on internet books).
The bottom line was that the matter was resolved IMMEDIATELY (one sent a WU and the other a cashiers check by next day FedEx) and I am still a happy customer.
Carib IMO is one of the first, largest, and most profitable books out there. If this is a result of a bank error on their end I believe they will quickly resolve the matter.
Keep us informed and I hope we hear from Carib as well.

There is no chance in heck that you will be stiffed for one dime. Carib is solid as a rock, as is are all books in Antigua.
There must be some kind of mistake. Carib is one of the most honest, responsible books out there. You will not lose a dime if indeed it happened. I would check the facts first with your own bank as I have experiences where my bank messed up.
If Carib did bounce a check, believe me, not only will they make it good, but they'll probably give you something for your trouble.

Follow up:
I just got off with the phone with the bank, and they said the only two reasons that the check didn't clear are if they put a stop on the check, or insufficient balance.
Now this check is very small beans (under $1000), I'm not a heavy hitter, but I don't understand how it would have bounced. No bank officers need to clear this one (unfortunately).
I will post another follow up after I speak with Carib around 10am EST.
I agree Carib Sports has an excellent track record, and I'm certainly not trying to bad mouth them since I would like to continue using them, but I just wanted to see if others had any similar experiences..

Greg, if it's a cashiers check it is gaureteed by the bank which means the bank takes the funds out of the account ( in this case CARIB's)so it can't bounce... so if that is what they sent I don't know why it wouldn't clear.
Good Luck Stinger, I'm sure this will be cleared up.

Stinger, I'm sure whatever happened was a mistake, and will be cleared. In case there ever was a worry, the small amount of the check is a guarantee that it is not for real.
A few years ago I had an offshore sportsbook check bounce, and it scared the hell out of me. It turned out that the bank account numbers on the check had simply smeared, and the computer couldn't interpret them properly. This is a possibility.
Anyway, I know it'll turn out well for you. Keep us informed.

Final resolution?:
I received the check back in today's mail, and just got back from a lovely visit to the bank. It seems as though they miscoded the check, and are now attempting to deposit it again. One can hope they don't mess up twice.
Let me just state that I meant no ill will towards Carib by posting this, but was looking for more of an explanation. They were a bit upset because I posted a message here about it before calling them, but I look towards this board for any problems. I understand that reputation is everything in this business and ask that this message be removed, or that the subject be changed at least.
Hopefully this issue is now resolved by the bank, and at least we know that this board is
heavily monitored by all the bookies.
