  • OH THE HYPOCRICY!!

Apparently the OJC is trying to get a Canadian law overturned that forbids Canadians from betting into foreign betting pools. I never realized this law existed but apparently it does.

Yet capitalotb.com, and a few others all allow Canadians to open accounts and bet into the American pools for races it offers. And of course the off track betting places are licensed by the racing boards - aka the state government.

So essentially despite the fact that Canada has laws disallowing its citizens from betting into these pools, the U.S. government could care less and is accepting accounts from Canadians because the U.S. law states that they can take bets from anywhere in North America and to hell with Canada's laws - they aren't applicable in the U.S.

Yet the U.S. government is doing the exact same thing to Jay Cohen claiming that he violated U.S. law by allowing American citizens to bet into lines from an operation run out of Antigua - a country that has a law stating that companies there can take bets from anywhere in the world.

I wonder what Janet Reno, John Kyl etc.'s reaction would be if the Canadian government stated that the manager of capitalotb, the governor of New York etc. would be arrested and jailed if they ever stepped onto Canadian soil for violating Canada's betting laws?
