  • Vegas Phone Accounts

I think they should just close down corporate, sterile Las Vegas
and re-open it under the aegis of the Mob.
The Mob would simply and properly tell the obnoxious Nevada Gaming Control Board to stick their faces where the sun doesn't shine.

These clowns never let up. Now, because of them, I have to listen to the same recording every time I call the Hilton. The recording tells you to hang-up if your call originates from outside of Nevada. Even worse, the Hilton now calls you back one out of every ten calls to make sure you are in Nevada.

With the IRS, the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and politicians like Kyl, is it any wonder that I hate the government?

reno, I'm surprised that the limits on the phone accounts there are worth the time for your call.

Big Money, the money adds up when you can hit a few joints, and sometimes you can double-pop the Hilton at two dimes a shot
      before they move their line.

        reno,
Vegas phone betting is like drinking cheap booze. You get the high when seeing the stale #s, but the side affects of paltry limits sicken you.
Im surprised you r playing at that toilet. The "Super Bookie" will close your acct. WIN or LOSE if you bet injuries(not pub). YEAH, thats right folks, play with the best of it WIN of LOSE you r outta there.

The old downtown joint--wonderful for phone betting!!!Sat. AM- phones are taken off the hook under the guise of "out of order". I guess there are too many gamed to comprehend. No totals on the phone and limits vary according to how you did yesterday.

Stardust runs a decent consistant phone operation but low limits. 1 dime sides--$3 totals. Friendly staff and Lupo is fair to all.

Meanwhile back to the Hilton. A few years back they tried competing with the SDust for putting out the first AM line lottery style.I believe Scotty was the first to use this method at the SD. Anyway, while waiting in line to bet, the guy behind me asks me "hey do you know if Laettners playing tonight?" Before I culd reply, "Super Bookie" rushes out from behind the counter and starts scolding this guy. "There is to be no talking in line!! Now get to the end of the line." STG

Richard manages the phones at Excalibur. Personally he s a great guy but his hands are tied. Different #s but.

I could go on and on some other time. Bottom line, you cant make a decent living playing Vegas phones unless you live in a cardboard box off Fremont St.

I thought the limits on all the Vegas phone accounts were screwed down to $300 or so. Was that just a temporary thing, or did it ever happen?

MANTERIS(HILTON GROUP) IS ONLY FOLLOWING ORDERS FROM THE BEAN COUNTERS UPSTAIRS(THEY
NO **** ABOUT BOOKMAKING), SO IF DONT FOLLOW ORDERS, HE'S GONE AND THEYLL SOMEBODY TO
TAKE HIS PLACE. AVIELLO OVER AT BALLYS
WILL TELL YOU THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR A BOOKMAKER IN VEGAS, IS TO "KEEP WORKING".

Come on OLD MAN, that guys crudness long, long before that merger! Maybe you r not that old. This guy has been VP at current place for quite a while and pretty much called his own shots. My unpleasant experiences with this gentleman go back to the early 80s when he worked at Caesars. Heaven forbid on his watch, if you tried to bet a horse that was already played.
Incidently, his current property prides itself in posting early and a variety of boxing lines. I would too, if I could put up #s that you could drive a bus thru!!!

I would like to know who got the -6.5 on the Rams in the Super Bowl. (When everyone else has -7 & -7.5) If he kicks all the sharp guys out, why did he put up a -6.5 on the Rams? Does he have personal runners who bet that for him? This makes no sense at all. Was it a real number? Or did he just want to look good by putting up a different number?

The M.G.M. has 10 cent baseball up to -195. They have 15 cent run lines! They have 15 cent totals. In hockey they have 10 cent lines up to -130 (yes 10 cent lines!) and then 15 cents up to -170! The M.G.M. is the best book On-shore or Off-shore. It's not close.

                  Big Money,
There was never any mandatory $3 cap on Phone Accts. However the trend is lower or elimination.

                  DoggieStyle,
                  Whats MGM s Phone Acct. # ???

YOUR RIGHT, IM NOT THAT OLD. I DO REMEMBER
WHEN I USED TO BET HORSES AT CHURCHILL.
IF YOU BET 100 ON A HORSE YOU PUT UP 110.
IF YOU BET 100 ON A FB GAME, YOU LAID 121.
IN THE EARLY 80'S, THEY BOOKED HORSES-THERE
WAS NO PARI-MUTUEL YET. I HAD TO GO TO
                    5 PLACES TO BET A 50 EXACTA.

Yup, OLD MAN, I hear ya. We each dont have that new car scent. I go back to the same era of the %10 Fed Excise Tax. But the difference between you and I is I wouldnt pay it. You knew the Outlaws money was just as good.
No offense, I repect you and your longevity.

Old Man...I'm the exception. I quit a good paying posisition at the Stardust in Nov 91 because of principal. Rather than become a whore for management I gave up my salary and everything I had accomplished and quit. Everyone has their price but they couldnt buy me...Scotty

                          Ronbets,

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe the MGM offers phone accounts.

Coast Resorts, Leroy's and Stratosphere also claim to offer phone accounts. Perhaps Reno or Ronbets can elaborate on those places.

As for the Hilton I closed my account with them many years ago when I heard they were barring winners. Since then I've made thousands of four figure bets with them over the counter. Even though I've beat them for abit they are still quite pleasant to me. Art Manteris seems like a nice enough fellow. However, can anyone explain his decision for barring winning phone account bettors? Every season some will win and some will lose. By barring the winners you could in effect be chasing away a valuable customer. I don't get it myself.

octan, when you bet over the counter you may not be getting the best price available. When one bets over the phone seriously, he/she only takes the best number out there.

I suspect this is the difference.
