  • They're baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!

Maybe now Phantom and all others can go back to work as the Pokers are back with a vengeance and we all don't have so much free time to hassle one another.

I sure did miss 'em...The Pokers that is. Long live free enterprise, long live The Pokers!

    Boomer,
As you can see from my previous posts. I am somewhat new to the "official" sportsbetting" scene.
I have read the past posts about the "Poker" players. But how does one know that they are so involved right now?
Forgive me for my ignorance, but when they are that involved, does it affect the lines that much?

The Poker Players are a group who are responsible for the most drastic and quick line movements. When they put an order out on a game, many many books are simulataneous hit with wagers on that game at the number that they request.

For example, if they say "buy San Francisco at -125", you will see within the next few minutes the lines change at all of the sportsbooks on the Don Best Feed go higher really quickly.

This drastic line movement creates wagering opportunities both for "steam followers", arbitragers (scalpers) and others as sportsbooks vigorously change their lines in an attempt to somewhat balance their books.

          Boomer,
          Thanks for the info.
Just out of curiousity. When I brought up the topic of scalping. A few of the "posters" strongly suggested that you need several "outs".
Based on your track record, you obviously have enough experienced in this field.
Do you recommend that a novice gambler tries scalping?

I do not recommend a novice tries to scalp. First of all you need a large bankroll to make any money at it. Second of all, it kinda kills the fun out of betting on baseball. Lastly, it requires alot of skill, knowledge and nerves of steel to do it profitably and consistently.

                Boomer,
How long have you been gambling for?
In your opinion, is it better to spread one's funds around? Or do you think it's better to stay with one solid book?
As I stated earlier, I don't shop lines or such. But at the same time, I like the idea of getting all the bonuses that sportsbooks offer.
                Your advice would be appreciated.

Boomer if you reworded it to read as follows i think the statement would be more accurate.

I do not recommend a novice tries to actually take a position (bet) on sports. First of all you need a bankroll to make any money at it. Second of all, it kinda kills the fun out of watching sports. Lastly, it requires alot of skill, knowledge and nerves of steel to do it profitably and consistently. If you don't have the skill, knowledge, or nerves of steel - then scalp.

Of course thats just my opinion.

                      I feel like Charley Brown...

Why is everybody always pickin' on me.
Baseball is the sport I'm the most proficient at, which means that I am only bad at handicapping it, as opposed to god-awful like I am in football.

In answer to your question CK, I've been gambling (and losing) for twenty five years. Only in the last 16 months did I start to recoup my losses. I must have had the world's longest unlucky streak.

I was feeling the same way you are. Why is someone razzing me. Let us know who he is and why he's picking on me.

Ip Police. Why in the world would you ask me that question.
Let's get something straight. Not everyone is a seasoned veteran like a lot of posters here. If my questions seem dumb to a lot of people, it's because I am not as "experienced" as some of you.
For some reason, there are a lot of egos in this forum. All I want is to get some more information on certain topics. It's that simple. If you don't wish to respond to these than don't.
Anyways, thanks Boomer for all of your help. I wish that the others were a bit more accomodating, but they seem to be too good for the "rookies".

                            Boomer,
Please don't perceive my questions to you as "picking" on you.
You and Reno seem to be the "veterans" on this forum and seem to have the most knowledge.
Don't mistake it for what it really is. Just inquiring to get some more information. That is all!!
