  • CK THE GAMBLING INFORMATION GODS ARE SMILING ON YOU

    CK,
I have to stay awake two hours to receive a call from Europe.
Put your most important questions in ONE post and I'll see if I have the answers you're looking for.

    REALITY,
Now the pressure is on for the questions to come up. I don't have a so many questions that need to be answered immediately. But questions do come up on a daily basis.
The immediate question that I do have for you is this:
As I stated in my previous posts. I have been playing offshore for only a couple of months now. And am strictly a recreational gambler. I have yet to use a sports handicapping service and will probably not use one until the NFL season starts. But my question to you is this.
It seems like all of the sportsbooks are offering bonuses of some sorts. I have been only playing with one book thusfar. And have been up and down with them. In your opinion, is it better to spread it around or stick with one book. I asked this question to Boomer, but they think that I have some alterior, or is it ulterior motive for asking these questions.
Thanks in advance for your help.

      CK,
Without a doubt spread it around, you have to be able to shop the line especially when a 1/2 point either way is the difference between pushing and losing.
Not knowing your financial position let's assume you want to play $10 a position over the internet where these kind of plays are acceptable.
Post up enough money to cover 10 positions or plays in 5 different books.
      Total bankroll $550.
If you have more to play with just split it up in this ratio.
Look to get 10% bonus,be wary of books that offer more.
You found your way here so play in the books endorsed here, there are a number of excellent offshore books.
I saw in one of your posts you are looking for CFL ,OLYMPIC SPORTS posts the CFL lines first.
Other excellent internet books are BETMAKER,CASABLANCA,CRIS,INTERTOPS,WWTS AND WSEX.
      Handicapping services are a waste.
Subscribe to THE GOLD SHEET and TRENDS WEEKLY published by DAVLER SPORTS out of OREGON get into the habit of making your own line based on the POWER RATINGS in the GOLD SHEET.
This will help you to avoid playing with your emotion when you think you have spotted a LOCK PLAY.
Remember teams are never as good as they look when they win and they never are as bad as they look when they lose.
Try to play teams that are on the improve and never keep playing a team week after week thinking the can't lose forever, because they can.
Try to look at it like this, why is this team losing week after week?
In this scenario you will be chasing a team that is in a tailspin.
It's only common sense that your chances to get the cash are better with a team on the rise.
Try to isolate teams that step up when they play the better teams, this is a great way to find value.
Chart the opening numbers at CRIS and OLYMPIC on a daily basis and try to pick off the plays.
These two houses are stone cold bookmakers and their line is moved most of the time by talent only, they have every WISEGUY PLAYER in captivity.
Money management is just as important as handicapping.
There are some very good cappers who get knocked out of the game early because they press figuring their luck is ready to change at any minute.
That is not the way it works.
When things are not going your way cut your play down.
When you are on a roll press it up in equal increments.
      NEVER,NEVER,CHASE!!!
The flag flies everyday, you must be there to salute it.
      GOOD LUCK!

Reality, well said. This reminds me of a publication I read from the Gold Sheet when I first began serious sports wagering. It was something like The Top Ten Keys to Successful Handicapping.

My simpler version now is to remember that there are four equally important keys to sucessful sports wagering: picking winners, finding the best price, getting paid, and managing your money. If you fail on any one of these points, you're toast.

sportshobby - Ain't that the truth. The most unfortunate individuals are the ones that possess the first 3 attributes but lack money management techiniques. I also believe that the importance of money management is very underestimated and not discussed nearly as much as it should be in forums such as BW. Everybody wants somebody to give them a winner. I know of many excellent handicappers who consistently pick winners, yet they wonder why they are losing money. Poor money management. IMO, this attribute is also the hardest and last to grasp, and once learned (and followed) allows the successful handicaper to cross the threshold. Proper money management, however, is easier said than done. It requires extreme discipline and diligence, and the urge (or threat) of "falling off the wagon" is everpresent. All it takes is a 1 unit bettor to fall to the tempation of making a 20 unit wager, and your money management plan is shot.

You will never hear anyone in BW admit to using a handicapping service. I just can't believe how much time is invoved in capping sports. I've tried it but just found myself with no free time and a bunch losers. So to say handicapping services are a total waste, I don't think is always the case. I know alot of people think capping is half the fun of this hobby , but it is not my cup of tea. My enjoyment comes from watching my bankroll increase and the games themselves. Just watching the games takes many hours a day. I don't see how these guys do it, unless you are a true professional or retired. I myself, have a job , kids, so I feel its well worth it in my case to pay for my picks. ck, if you want a handicapper just remember to be careful and do research before sending money. Never use a screamer, or anyone who claims to hit over 60 % or so. I use all different ones for different sports. Or you can watch the good cappers here in BW They are better than most you pay for.

                    IBTom,
                    Thanks for your help.

mls: What's with the attitude towards REALITY? Is there something that I should know?
REALITY's info seems to be very advantageous to players like myself.

The problem with such simplistic information is that it is little more than money management. These ideas were in the first gambling books I read over 30 years ago.

90% of new gamblers know these simple rules and still lose - because they are 30 years behind the times.

The are numerous new betting weapons in the professionals arsenal ... which every pro here knows and of which Reality obviously no clue.

It is about keeping up with the times. Reality advocates betting into the 20 cent line at CRIS - and yes, while very very rare opportunities may arise, it is simply a waste of valuable time, which could be used to find 10X as many good plays elsewhere.

Reality has no idea how or why anyone would use the betting-in-progress now offered by the Dunes. Yet the real pros, like Boomer, are already using it to their advantage.

My problem with Reality is that he portrays himself as a pro or someone qualified to teach - he is not.

If Reno or Boomer or any of the other pros most of us know here post advice I listen very very closely. When wannabes like Reality start giving advice I fear for the novice reader ...

                        MLS,

                        Mirrors Love Smoke.

Once again your suffering the same malady you suffered in the PHANTHOM POSTS.

The PHANTHOM repeatedly stated he in no,way shape or form believed that abortion and sports betting was a crime on the same level,he merely needed a crime in your profession to paraphrase Reno's post.

Had you been a lawyer,he would have had you pilfering the trust funds of old ladies.

The INVITATION here was posted tounge-in-cheek precisely because it is twenty cent line.

Jeff, however made a valid point that on occasion you can find value in a twenty cent line.

You are drowning and looking more pathetic by the moment...

                              REALITY,
What is the verbal war with mls all about?
I have been trying to check all the posts.
But how in the world did this all start?
Anyways, that is not why I am even posting here.
I am not a big baseball bettor, and this thing about the 20 cent line has been popping up all the time.
I know that the answer to my question will probably be in the archives. But you, REALITY, seem to put it in words that is easily understood to the "novice".
                              So here is my question:
How much of an affect, or is it effect? is it on a player that plays with a book with a 20 cent line compared to a 10 cent line?
