  • OFFSHORE SPORTSBOOKS THAT DON'T RATE PLAYERS?

Are there any offshore outlets that don't rate players? What I mean is are there any places that give everyone the same line. I get more complaints on this than anything else. I hear that CRIS & Caribi are the world's worst for rating players. I had a guy the other day who calls my 900 number everyday. He plays all favorites. He gets the Yanks from me at most minus 220. He calls CRIS and gets them at minus 300. This goes on all the time. Why do people frequent outlets that kill them like this?

I have always received the Don Best lines from both CRIS and Caribi. Likewise, I receive the Don Best lines from all the books on the Screen. Some of the lower-grade Don Best books will stall you so you don't get a "steam" number, but none will give you a different line if you tell them you subscribe to the Don Best service. If anyone has a problem not getting what is on the Screen, call Don Best and they will take care of the problem for you.

If a non-pro is getting whacked-out lines, all he has to do is fib and tell the books
that he subscribes to Don Best. Then, he will get the Screen lines.

Hey, can I trade with these squares? I'd love to get the lines that they are "stuck" with. Yankees -300 when it is -220 everwhere else. Sounds like a scalper's paradise, not something to complain about.

I also rate the sportsbooks. And according to my ratings, there are no truly sharp baseball books. No one has a clue. For example, take Friday's Seattle/Oakland game. I actually took + 125 on Seattle early, and at the end of the day I was taking + 107 on Oakland. What a joke! Everyone opened with nearly the same line, and it was collective insanity. The fact that Oakland won the game is immaterial. The key point is that no book saw how ridiculous the original line was. The action was super one-sided because of a bad line that everyone cloned.

Even Belize, which I praised before, doesn't have a distinct opening opinion. Their opening lines were only different before because they were getting big pre-opening action from a sydicate, which has temporarily ceased playing.

        Reno,
And we still make money, its amazing how all these clueless people stay in business!
Just because a book doesn't post the sharpest line does not mean that we are clueless. You would be surprised, some of us are fairly bright. LOL

          Reno!
Intheknow is right. Its very hard to have a serious opinion without taking big positions because of the Don Best screen. If your not a clone and are 10c off the screen you have all the action you want on the game in only seconds. Also Reno being a few years older than you and having been around this business all my adult life I can say with a great amount of certainty that most bookies while maybe not school educated can do more with numbers than most people you'll ever meet.

If the world is using -135 on Oakland and your a store and think the line is too high what can you open the game? -128? The stores are clones because the world is now a scalper.

Software today is so sophistacated that on each players profile it knows to jack up the price on favorites or lower the dog if necessary on a players habits. This has nothing to do with DB as most squares don't know that it even exists. Truth be told most clerks don't even know they are pricing out a customer as they only read the line on the screen in front of them.

Years ago, the street term for this was "dealing to faces".
            Great post devil!

I respect what you guys are saying but I still want to know are there any offshore outlets that do not rate or profile players? Any anywhere?

Guess they all do. Not a one stepped up and said they didn't.

Johnny- There is a big difference between rating/profiling players and dealing multiple lines. I think knowing your players is just good business practices.

This past football season Rio International Sportsbook had separate lines for different types of players, but do to the complaints, we have seen it fit to deal same lines to all customers regardless. If you see a Line on Don Best, you will get it.

When you walk up to a book in Nevada you bet the posted line. I just wonder if there are any straightup offshore guys who will do the same thing. Seems like the place that does that would have a lot more business. Why do the offshore boys have to scam players? Seems like a sports service mentality to me and I know a lot about that.

                        JD

The easiest response is some do some don't.
The stores that do won't respond to this question while the offices that don't, feel there is no need..

Will the stores that only use one line and don't shade any customers please respond here.. Thank you..

                          JDM,

What makes you think you get the posted price in LV?? You dont live here and you dont know what goes on in these corporate toilets. Dont get me going on these hustlers with suits on. Example? ok--Entered sportsbook and copied lines. I then went to mens room, came back and supervisor made 2 air moves. Fine, I wanted to play against the moves and was told I couldnt bet on those sides. Their disclaimer "we reserve the right to refuse any wager". Senator McCain you should outlaw these fine gentlemen.

Let's face it. When a guy opens an offshore account he knows little or nothing about the owners or anything else. When a guy opens a bank account he has access to all the bank's financials and management. These days several of our offshore friends are targets of the US Government. This offshore thing as as a whole is really shady business. The long term future of the business to me, is very bleak.

Wow, As a bettor I must be a fool to think the advantage of risking 10 to win 11 would be enough for a bookmaker, whether he be around the corner or around the world! But from what I've lived in life and read here at BW there are countless ways the players are screwed. In addition to outright stiffing, they use tactics such as player profiling and placing bettors on hold so they can't beat the move. Worrying about getting paid and being dealt a fair line sort of makes me feel like I'm paying a larger vig!
