  • Excalibur breaking news...

They are under investigation by the Nevada Gaming Commission. I don't know what the charges are but I have a REAL good idea of what is going on. The phone accounts are shut down but the walk-up business is still open. I do not know if more accounts have been seized but I'll bet that the gaming agents are spending their time listening to any audio tapes they can get their hands on. I guess thats what happens when you put certain customers on hold for fifteen minutes every day when the opening numbers are being bet and you can never EVER get one iota of the gold that they have up there. This happened to me for 5 years, never got one piece of the juicy numbers they would have up there. I have an idea of who did get them and I think thats why they are being investigated.

reno, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Segundo, I went down to the Excalibur today and took the money out of my phone account.
The sportsbook manager and the supervisors have been suspended. Beyond that, I couldn't get any further information. Phone accounts won't re-open until at least next week.

I disagree with you regarding their opening lines. It is very competitive, but sometimes I get in first and get the good numbers. However, it is incredibly tough to get the good numbers that pop up on the Don Best Screen throughout the day.

      Reno

In regards to opening lines, The ex was NOT on the "up and up". That is what gaming will be trying to prove. It will be tough though because I do not think anyone at the ex will admit they were paid for "first service" and furthermore I cant think of anyone who would come forward and say they were toking the supers at the spot to get first place. We all remember why the Mirage went to a lottery 3 years ago dont we? The only thing that I can think of, would be if a pissed off player called in and said (as he was being taped) I PAID YOU $%#$#$#$ NOW GIVE ME THE LINE!!!!!

Kelvin, then why was I periodically able to get in first? According to a phone clerk--and an outstanding one at that--when Artie B. got busted, that only left about 4 or 5 guys, including me, aggresively fighting for the numbers. Artie had a whole bunch of guys with phone accounts, so naturally he was the heavy favorite to get any good numbers.

However, the Excalibur has definitely been the toughest Don Best book to get a number from. The only way I could have been beaten to some numbers was if a guy had his finger glued to the Excalibur one-touch button. Innumerable times a number would pop-up on the Screen, and I would almost instantaneously hit the Excalibur one-touch button and...I'd get beaten to the number. Hell, it gave me an inferiority complex that I still can't shake. I just figured that someone had a quicker trigger finger and was obsessed with getting every decent number at that joint. I was getting so upset that I was almost ready to accept the reality of the cold, hard criticism from Eddie at Premiere League, who had told me that I was getting old and slow.

I do understand where you are coming from Reno. I feel, however, that occasionaly a person will get in ,AND be able to play some off numbers.
If they kept EVERY number for their payees they would have been arrested long before this.
We will wait and see the outcome of the investigation.

reno, I see where you are coming from, I am one of the guys competing with you for the numbers that pop during the day and guess what? I get one out of every 15 that pop, and I am one of the fastest phone guys there are. I thought the same a while ago that I was too slow then I figured it out, therefore I am going to educate you now. You see, the person(s) getting all the gold that pops there would call in, the supervisor would ask him if he wanted so and so at a specific price, the person would say yes, the supervisor or whoever would then change (while the bettor is still on the phone) the game in their own system so that the ticket would come out at a the new price and we would see that change on the Don Best. Meanwhile me and all of the other idiots are frantically dialing to get through and hope that we get some but no way baby, you are too slow. This is my take and there is almost nothing that you can say that will change my opinion.

Remember the problem with the Race books giving players a rebate on their horse action? Well I think there was a law enacted that said that everyone will get a fair shake at a number, deal or whatever. I think this is what is being investigated here.
