MOVING ON AIR!!!!!

Reality states that there is no juice if the dog wins. Geez, maybe I'm missing something, but if a lines is, say, -140 on the favorite and + 130 on the dog, the "real" line is 135, and therefore, there is 5-cents juice on the favorite and 5-cents juice on the dog. In the case of the dog, the juice is "implicit" rather than "explicit." Also, if there is "only juice if the dog barks," does that mean books lose money when the favorite wins?

Misty,...and the guy used to work for a clone joint that moved on air and kicked out wiseguys for both buying back and for beating him to the "steam" moves. The next time the International Bookmaker's Association (IBA) wants to send a BM into Bettorsworld to challenge me, tell them to send in a guy from the starting line-up, not a second-team scrub.
I'm overmatched? Hardly. Anyone with a brain would see it the other way. The judges you're talking about must be from the first Holyfield/Lewis fight.

Reno.
Let's see if I have this right. You were beating one book to the steam and then you bought back at a different book to cover yourself and they kicked you out? If you did it with the same book that would kinda like be rubbing it in.
So in essence the second book cloned the line but really didn't want the business. Why didn't they just go a nickel different than the clone line so they wouldn't get as much business?

Reno,
Why do you say it defies logic. There are many different types of stores.. Those that welcome wise guy action. Those that want a limited amount of wise guys for buy backs and those that detest wise guy action.. None of them are wrong. The second and third mentioned are only disliked by the wise guys..
I asked at the start of this thread about moving on air.
Why do you feel it's wrong. Do you feel every book should stay at a stale number that hasn't been hit just so somebody can take a bad number and then bring it to a new true number.. would love to see what you would do if you were a book...

Devil, if I'm booking I don't have stale numbers. Every number would be clearly thought out by myself or an astute associate. For example, I'd have never opened Cleveland -176 like Caribi did. Lance at Skybook got the game right when he opened it at -160. I took + 163 on the game before it starting moving and before Lance opened. I layed -150 on the buyback.
Moving on air makes sense in special situations. For example, if the Giants are
-150, and it is then announced that Bonds and Kent are out of the line-up, the line should be changed on air because the -150 was based on their being in the line-up.

In a way moving on air is like a gas station having all of it's tanks filled on Monday at a $1.50 and then on Tuesday everyone in town moving to $1.60.
Actually, on the buyback side the book is against the steam so I would think they would be happy unless the steam is getting killed.
But eventually this kind of book is going to be mad at anybody who wins and gets a payout.
It's not like a player can walk up to a book and say which way do you want some action to balance your book? I'll give you a $5,000 play if I can get the Yankees at XXX.
Actually, anyone who bets a # on the favorable side after a move is a scalper & takeing advantage of a better #. So how can the player be sure when the book really wants his money? I've had books tell me-We're glad to see you because everybody and their brother has been taking the X's.
Instead of being mad at the players maybe the books should be mad at the books who change the lines after they get hit which starts the line change dominos to fall.

per Reno
Bucky, I've often taken and bought-back at the same joint. A true BM doesn't care.
I have no idea why a book would kick someone out for grabbing a number they hang, especially a buyback number. It defies logic.
---------------------------------------------
Reno, it seems to me that if I am a book I would rather get action from a regular(bettors not scalpers) player at -150 and another regular player at +160 then get action from Reno on both sides, since Reno will have a 100% chance of beating me over the long run, while the regular players do not. Thus if you Reno are beating regular players to the numbers, you are doing them and the book a dis-service. So in the short term, I agree, what is the difference whether Reno gets the good number or someone else gets the good number, over the long haul, there is a big difference. What is better for the book, 2 satisfied sharp bettors or 1 satisfied Reno. This is what I understood Reality to be saying and that to me is very logical.

Slam Dunk, in the real world (not REALITY'S WORLD) there are innumerable people competing for the same numbers at the same time. A big-time book with multiple phone clerks isn't going to take the time to play classroom monitor and decide who deserves to bet on which game. All they do is hang a number, and it's first come, first served. Which is how it should be. I've made friends with guys that run sportsbooks, and I don't get any special treatment from them. I probably go for and get beaten for 50 or more numbers everyday. That's life, and that's sportsbetting. If I don't take a number, someone else will. You better believe that there are plenty of very sharp guys who often see the same thing I see at the same time. And it can be like a feeding frenzy when everyone goes for the same number at the same time. A local mom-and-pop sportsbook might try to accomodate certain players. But, I'm sure if you talk to the big Don Best books, they'll tell you that when they hang a number, they don't give a hoot as to who takes it. And they also don't give a hoot if the game moves far enough for you to buy-back there later.

REALITY what is your problem? Just because you and The Devil are scared to face any wiseguy action <(They are only wiseguys if they are sharper than the bookie they are playing with!)> because you guys could never win a dollar gambling and now think your smart bookies? Yes, That's just what we need. More chicken s**t bookies to pass on the tourch.
I have a problem with anybody like REALITY saying they are this and that. I think REALITY is somebody who sucked up to all the big wigs because this is the only way he could ever be in a position to say he is somebody. A kiss**s is the wosrt kind of person alive! *REMEMBER HITLERS KISS**SES* *CASTROS KISS**SES* *STALINS KISS**SES* Kiss**ses are dangerous people!
REALITY is a nobody!! The Devil is a nobody! They both want you guys to think they are important! Reno is just having fun. Reno doesn't have to apoligize for saying anyones name! Reno wins this bout because Reno works for Reno!!!! Final! Plus he probably is a better bookie than both of these fools combined and never even did it. Most good scalper/middlers have far more understanding of the business than any clerk/bookie could ever learn.
REALITY don't you understand that everyone knows their names and the off-shore owners names too! YOU ARE A NERD. Is this another way of sucking up to the so-called important people in this industry! This is the feel I get reading your posts.
Reno is 100% right, Why don't you call John Smith from the newspaper and let him know what you feel! I bet you didn't do this. Why! What he wrote was like burying this man without a trial!
I for one don't think REALITY has anything to say that most people don't already know. Losing him won't cost this site anything at all. What has he said to educate us?
