This is what I am saying auspice. If you saw the lines you speak of , you were labled a SQUARE. If you started to beat PC with the off lines YOU WERE THEN coded wiseguy (or at least saw the lines). i really dont feel like getting in a bitch match with you guy, I am plain and simply trying to let you know WHAT HAPPENED, not what you think happened. Back in those days things were alot different then today. It was the largest book on the Island of Antigua, not WWTS , Not Caribi ...PC and they were making a hella lot of money. Anyways when you get a chance to run a line board with 7 figures coming through ya give me a shout.

Perhaps our perspectives of the old Paradise Casino are so different because of how we used it. At the time, I ran a small local shop with about 15-20 people I knew and trusted. The limits were only a nickle and I knew everyone very, very well. But if you've ever run a shop (and it appears you have) you always get too high on certain games. usually monday night football and either the browns or bengals here.
I was looking for a nice place to lay-off some money. I read about the Paradise in one of the football rags and sent in a smallish amount to get some feel for what they were.

Honestly, from a players perspective...they were the pits. Make no mistake about it, I got my money back from them when I requested it, but they were the pits to try and depend on. As I remember it, and it has been some time ago, if you were going to play a NCAA basketball game that went off during the week.....they only opened the line at 6:00 for a 7 or 7:30 tip-off. they were so hard to get through to on the phones that you had to work at it. and you couldn't depend on actually getting through at all. their clerks seemed nice but their "line supervisors" were mean spirited *****s that were constantly screaming. The clerks kept the lines on a sheet of paper that the "line supervisor" would yell out. It appeared (and I do mean appear as I'm just making a guess here) that the "high sheet" was manually generated as there was always background voices whenever a clerk received a nickle or dime bet and the supervisor would scream out a line change accordingly. All action would stop anytime the supervisor would yell out a change so the clerks could change their sheets.

Actually, I never generated enough confidence in the place to send in much money because of their monographic operations. not knowing anyone that actually used them didn't help my confidence level either. and the line service I used out of Vegas used the Stardust line (as most of them did back then)....and the numbers I was getting were so far off.....I thought they were vunerable.

In any event, my memories of the old Paradise were not sweet. and to have
Johnny D. quote some BS 99.82% number just sort of set me off.

Let me ask you, if you'll take the time, what did go wrong with the old Paradise...or does anyone really know? I was a CPA for too many years and I know from working with small business owners....that lots of time it's really hard to figure out what really does go wrong with a venture. But gee....has there ever been a business that was in the right place, at the right time, with the right product that missed like the Paradise?

I'm ashamed to admit it, butt I went 1-9 (Thanks Boston College I'm glad you saw it that I was not caught with my pants completely off) this week in the 2 5 team competitions (NFL & NCAA)...

Disgusting and totally depressing!

The lucky thing is that I didn't place a bet - Because if I did then I could hardly hope that anyone would pick up my ashes from the crematorium!!!

At least I can watch my Jets tonight and hope that dude Miller will not insult my intelligence... Well at least not 99.82% of the time!

You are right on with a few things. It was common when a dime plus would come in for the clerks to let the linesman know (thats the hollering you were hearing) . Although I truely believe for that particular day and time we were as moderate as they came. This was back in the days of opening up shop 2 hours before game time. Everything was done on computer , tickets, lines and so on. Unlike today, you could were correct when mentioning customer service was a bit lacking. We were coming off the beach , chasing skirt , pompous assh**** (but in a good way . But let me be clear when I say that place was successful as any place in its time. It was a money making machine, with a fat customer base and a ton of square money. Concerning PC's fall it has been well documented in other posts here at BW. Johnny D. has filled in the details. It had nothing to do at all with the lack of success of the bookmaking side of the house. When it comes to PC missing the boat, dont shed any tears just because you dont see "Paradise Casino" when you log onto your favorite sportsbook as that ship is still running strong. I do apolgize if my first response if I came off like an a** as it was not intended.
