  • To all the sportsbook! Please put the odds back to NORMAL!!!

Damn, it is getting worst and worst as time goes by nowadays. I'd seen several 7' on first quarter totals at -140. -3 on the game line at -120 or -125. Come on guys, can't we just make it as simple as before. "Increase the points not the moneyline".

Good old days bookmaking, if the opening line was -6 and the public is going one sided that -6 may closed at 8 and nobody cared. As a player, it would be so difficult to get ahead at 11/10 vig. But -140, pleassseeee! Me and my buddies call that HIGHWAY ROBBERY....

but what if you like the other side?

    or the other possibility

Nice if you can get KC -3

and say, Seattle +3 +120 eh?

TO ALL THE NEW MATH BMs (r)

Did you ever hear of over coaching? We're not splitting the atom here. STOP confusing the bettors and making telephone rundowns a calculus lesson. Your clerks are also confused.

Are you worried about getting sided or middled? No problem, just use moneylines on competitive games up to 7 pts. NO WAIT--- I just got a bad vision! I can see it now, MNF 'Skins -170. J.Q. Public bets a dime on the 'Skins and you moved the price to -171.5.

My indebtedness to ScottK(linemaker/BM). You were 100% right. BMs need experience in the bushes before they're ready for prime time.

        Underdog7,

You know of a BM that does not use money lines on NFL Quarter Totals?

Hamhog - Nowadays, it would be very difficult to see any book not using moneylines on quater lines. Why? Simply because they have to "offset" the sign up bonuses, reload bonuses, referral bonuses, no vig on this, rebate on losses, etc., etc. As I said before, they are making a living out these props bet. Don't get me wrong, I do understand exactlyy the overhead of how to operate or run a book nowadays compared with decade ago, but hey, can't we just go back to BASICS. "Move the numbers not the moneyline"

            Underdog7,

I disagree as to why the books adjust the moneyline. Some bets don't lend themselves to simple moves. An NFL 1st quarter total of 7 happens about 18.3% of the time. If a BM gets onesided action on a number, they can't move the line to 6.5 or 7.5. Too big of a shift. A Money line is required.

I have read a lot of complaints about something like 7.5 u -140. Typically the -140 is characterized as thieving. Not really sure why. No reason the player can't take the over +120. Same thing goes for 3 -120. The rec player who likes the dog saves 10 cents.

A BM who drew a line in the sand on NFL Quarter totals, only offering numbers at -110 either way, would be busted in no time.

I want to join AV2 here.

I absolutely don't understand the point of the statement like "Increase the points not the moneyline". Why?

              Underdog7,

You wrote: "As a player, it would be so difficult to get ahead at 11/10 vig. But -140, pleassseeee! Me and my buddies call that HIGHWAY ROBBERY...."

Obviously, if you bet @-140 you consider the probability of the outcome to be much higher than if you bet @-110, don't you? And you can always take the other side.

I am sure you understand this better than I do. But then what is the point?

              Ronbets,

Don't you agree that a person who decided to become a sports bettor should be familiar with at least the basics of mathematics, and Probability Theory in particular?

                  Alec,

Agree, the necessity of basic arithmetic is a must for most sports bettors. However, being privy to the laws of probability don't come into play with 90% of all bettors. Most recreational and weekend punters don't need the confusion of the cosmetic #s being put out today. When I see young BMs throwing out 4.5-20, I'm beginning to wonder if they can count to 5 or they're trying to be en vogue.

                      Underdog7,

It's probably my fault. Let's try it again.

I said that it is equally hard "to get ahead" at -110 or at -140. It doesn't make any difference as long as the juice is the same.

I hope I made myself clear this time.

Hmmnn...how will it be the same? Laying a dime on -10 if you lose it's -1100. On the other hand it's -1400. Please correct me if my math is wrong.

                              actually heard someone talking about
'getting Wheatgrass Juice' among other assorted things while coming out, of all places, the Chinese restaurant near work

Nearly fell over, it must actually exist
