  • Semi-complaint about Olympic....

I don't know if this should be called a "complaint" but here goes...

As you people probably know, Olympic offers "Imaginary Matchups" for football games. For example you can bet on the total of the U. of Arizona - Washington U. game today, even though both teams are playing other opponents. As I was looking at these props today, I realized that someone had screwed up the deadline for placing the bets and had accidently written 11:55PM instead of 11:55AM, and thus a lot of bets were still available on games that had ended. For example, you could bet on South Carolina -1.5 against Penn State as of 7 PM, even though both games were over by that time. I called Olympic to alert them to this mistake that could cost them money, and it took me 3 calls (I got disconnected twice, and put on indefinite hold once) and I had to speak to 4 different people to alert them to their own mistake and save them money. They even transferred me to customer service once, even though it had nothing to do with my account. Ultimately, I had to walk them through every step of the process (click on football, now click on Imaginary Matchups, now click on....), and explain it three times before they got what I was saying.

Even though I was patient, I don't think others would try this hard to save Olympic money. It seems like the customer service representatives need a little more training?

    Salak,

I've heard of VISTA but never VISTB. Your efforts seem to go above and beyond. Send Spiro a bill!!

salak: I've missed 2 days in eight months and yesterday was one of them. Therefore I take full responsibility for any customer service problems. Call me Monday A.M. and I will fix you up. Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for all the trouble you took to correct our mistake.

        Gord,

You are very welcome. I have been very happy with Olympic for the past 3-4 months, and you guys are always helpful and friendly (even to a small timer like me). You don't need to fix me up, but if you do (# 30944), I certainly won't object since I've been losing quite a lot of money to you guys in the past 3 weeks...

        Keep up the good work!

Salak should be commended for his efforts to alert Olympic.

I cannot imagine how one book puts out so many bets and props - I do not have the time to even read them all, let alone see how anyone could post them all!

Salak is one of the good guys ...

Thank you for the compliment, mls. The only reason I went out of my way and kept calling back to alert them to their mistake is that Olympic has treated me well as long as I have been with them. If it was some other book, I would have probably laughed at it, and moved on without feeling the need to call them.

I would also like to thank Spiro and Olympic doing more than they had to. I had made a large ( at least for me ) futures bet on the Vikings to win over 7 1/2 games this season. The Vikes won their 8th game yesterday and although Olympic's rules state that they normally wait until the end of the season to grade futures bets they credited my account after I E-mailed them. It saved me from having to make a deposit as my account balence had fallen to $0 ( I hate it when that happens).

                Thanks Spiro

                  M/Mike,

What a classy but chancey move by Olympic. That's comparable to paying off an over on a baseball total after 8 innings. Stranger things have happened for a team not to complete the 16 game regular season. Great gesture to keep you in action!

MM- This is one of the many reasons Spiro is on top of my list when people ask me where to play.

However the part of this topic that disturbs me is the lack of knowledge (and sometimes plain rudeness)some of the employees of these sportsbooks have. Jamaica has to be the worst by far....

                      Hmm,

Come to think of it when I was in the tiny little sportsbook bit at the Tropicana from listening to them a couple of employees there were certainly clueless.

Olympic is a great book, as long as you don't have to talk to anyone!
