  • Gamblers Book Club

    I'll be making a brief trip through Vegas soon and I'm stopping here. Anyone have any suggestions on some good books. I won't have a lot of time to browse. Thanks, Frank.

    And please don't tell me "How Professional Gambler's Beat the NFL" by JR Miller.

      Oh shoot, you beat me to it.

      Actually, depending on your interests you might try the following:

      "The Half Book", by Jack Granowski;

      "Race and Sportsbook Management", by Roxborough;

      anything by Bill James;

      and any of the 20-year old stuff by Mike Lee is still worth reading.

            Buy any and all of Huey Mahls old books......they'll only cost you 2 bucks or so, and are a bit dated, but well worth the read.

            The wiseguy bible by Sonny Daniels is a good read as well. Not really for the gaming info in the book, much of it lifted from other publications, but for the in depth section, half the book really, dedicated to the legal/illegal aspects of bookmaking and betting.

            Sportsbetting 101 by Arne Lang.......not bad

            Gambling Theory by Malmuth.......and getting the best of it by by Sklansky are also worth the read and gets into the mathematics of gambling.

            Lastly, for a few good stories from the past, check out Sonny Reizners book. Again, it's dated, but if it's still available, it's got some great stories.........Superbookie, by Art Manteris also worth the read for the bad beat and other stories it contains.

              Jeff,

              The only plug I'd give Art Manteris would be for the stylish 'do he wears. It looks like he's wearing an Axis helmet 24/7.

                Yeah........I was reluctant to mention him, knowing how many feel, but the book had some good stories, the kind you don't find often enough in sportsbetting books.

                  If you can buy Art's book used for a couple of dollars it is a good read.

                    Marcus,

                    If we perceive Art Manteris as a good writer, and maybe a gentleman PR figure, hell we should all 'hang' at the LV Hilton and give him our business.
