  • UEFA Cup Head-to-Head at Pinnacle

    Hi everyone...

It's been a longstanding consensus among the soccer crowd in this forum that "to advance" props in Cup competitions are long overdue. We've decided to test the demand. Our internet clients at planetpinnacle.com can now bet on the fourth-round pairings in the UEFA Cup. Right now these are good for a nickel and we'll increase the limits as matchday approaches.

Opening prices below. As always, prices subject to fluctuations.

    Cheers,

    Shawn & Lara

      Shawn,

Why almost nobody, except of Interwetten, offers "to advance" bets is absolutely beyond me. I mean the books from the Caribbean and Western Europe.

It is the most natural option to bet on in Cup competitions. This is exactly what Cup matches are about: who will advance to the next stage? Not "who will win a particular match?"

The books in Kiev have been offering "to advance" bets since the beginning of their existence, which is for 6 or 7 years now.

      Now some questions.

Will you update your prices after the first leg?

Why don't you extend your "to advance" offer to the Champions League?

Just: Team X to advance/not to advance to the quarters.

It is amazing how almost everywhere you can bet on "Team X to win its group" and can't make a "to advance" bet. It doesn't make any sense for me.

I know, English books do this, but so what?

        Alec,

        Thanks for the questions.

I don't forsee a problem with updating after the first leg, at least for those ties where both teams have some realistic chance of going through. Thanks for the idea--we'll do it.

As far as "to advance" in Champions' League, this looks tricky. I will take a look at it over the holidays when most of the leagues are on break and see what I can do. No promises. In future, though, this looks reasonable before any round kicks off its first matchday.

We did something like that for Euro 2000 but it was a little different: We put up the favoured sides (England, Germany, etc.) NOT to qualify for the quarters, and all the underdog sides (Romania, Turkey, etc.) to qualify. So every prop paid at least 2.00 and there were some big prices to be had on the surprises. Every bet placed withb us was a bet against perceived form and our players had a lot of fun with it. We spent a lot of time sweating Slovenia (somewhat less fun, until they went out).

        Cheers,
        Shawn

Yeah, European soccer bookmakers hate stuff with only 2 options or <115% markets it seems.

Futures like group bets bonanzas for bookies you would think.
