Is there any truth to Shrink's article?

Why should any BM subscribe if the posted shops hold numbers so everybody else gets hit?

My sincerest apologies if the article is untrue. I REALLY hope that is the case.

In the OPINION of Bettorsworld NEVER, NEVER put ANY creedence in ANYTHING that comes from the mouth of RX.

In Bettorsworld opinion, what he writes is self serving as is the case here.
Look closely at what he wrote. 1st he THINKS he has put Dana on the spot THEN sings the praises on Don Best Sports.

One thing you can be sure of. The RX in NO WAY influences Dana into making a decision of this nature. The RX will try to make you and other books believe that he DOES but truth be told he DOES NOT.

Personally I believe the article (although I take anything Sting reports with a grain of salt ...)

For one thing, if it were not true then Spiro of Olympic would have long ago denied it. He hasn't denied it because (a) it is true, and (b) he did not do anything wrong.

For those that have not read the article - Spiro placed a 10 dime bet at - 6 1/2 at Del Mar and asked, as a favor, that Del Mar not change their line for 10 minutes on the Don Best screen so Spiro could get his number at other books.

As long as Del Mar was still accepting bets at Spiro's number (still not changed on the Don Best screen) there would have been no problem.

The problem occured when a clerk forgot to adjust the Don Best feed after the 10 minutes - so Del Mar's computer showed -7 (this is the number quoted to all callin customers) while Don Best still showed Del Mar -6 1/2.

Personally I think Don Best overreacted BIG TIME to a clerk's error - simple human error.

Were books hurt by the Spiro-Del Mar deal? Well, (a) Del Mar's only obligation is to give the screen number to customers (prevented this time by an obvious clerk error), and (b) I doubt Del Mar has a duty or obligation to help other books "move on air."

The idea that Spiro and Del Mar owe a duty to protect clone books that move on nothing more than the Don Best screen is ridiculous.

Judgment for Spiro and Del Mar; costs assessed Don Best.

Most of what you said sounds good and plausible. But with regards to what you said at the end, let me know when you start booking. I know some people that might want to open an account. This is assuming you would not be using Don Best. You wouldn't need it because you would never move on air.

MLS, if it were just this one situation, then one might conclude that Don Best over-reacted. However, when I called Don Best to discuss the situation, they made it clear that Del Mar has repeatedly failed to honor their numbers on the Screen and that multiple subcribers have complained about it.
Moreover, Don Best has not received a large number of complaints about any other book, although other Don Best books also backpedal when it comes to immediately updating lines that are hit by an "originator."

The question is this: Should Don Best Premium Service books be allowed to take a bet from an originator of "steam" games
without being required to immediately change their number on the Feed so that it accurately reflects their new betting line?

Del Mar is often the first book hit when there is a big "steam" move. And that is because they have very high limits and (unlike many other stores) aren't looking to bet the game with someone else. Should stores like Del Mar protect their biggest and best customers by stalling on line changes, or are they, as a Don Best Premium book, obligated to immediately update their lines?

It depends what Don Best wants to do. If they want to say "We have REAL-TIME lines", then they should get rid of the books that aren't going to update them purposely. If Don Best did not advertise "real-time" lines, there would be no arguments.

Don Best can't force ANYBODY to honor this retarded rule! If Don Best could force these Books into changing the numbers instantly..... He would have NO BOOKS on his service.

THEY ALL HOLD UP CHANGES SO THE PLAYERS CAN GET BETS DOWN BEFORE THE CLONE BOOKS ALL MOVE THE NUMBER.

THEY HAVE DONE IT FOR YEARS.....WHAT A SUPRISE...AND DON BEST MIGHT NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT IT HAPPENING. I wouldn't be suprised if Dana didn't even know about it! HE DOES NOT NEED TO KNOW!

It's NOT DANA'S business what these Books are doing! It's that simple... He can use their lines, But he can't tell them what to do! Maybe 1 by 1, But if he tried to force ALL THE BOOKS to put changes in instantly like they like to claim.... He would have NO SERVICE!

If that was the reason Don Best wanted DelMar off the service..... Then DelMar, CRIS, OLYMPIC, CRIBI and all the other Books that want to Book bets and NOT COPY THE CHANGES should start their OWN LINE SERVICE!

And if THEY want to hold back changes for all the LARGER PLAYERS then they can without some CRYBABY telling them they can't!

It's that simple............

The Don Best thing IS getting out of hand. And I'm sure it is THE CLONE BOOKIES that are complaining! Most Bettors don't care, If you changed the number...You changed the number, No big deal.

The Clone Books... Well... They are the Ones who feel like they are being ripped off! Because the ONLY REASON they have the SERVICE is they are paying Don Best to COPY the real Books lines so they don't have to take any chances getting hit with the move and do their work for them!

The CLONE BOOKS think they have a RIGHT to Book bets and not take any plays that will move the lines! THAT'S THE REAL PROBLEM! If all Books would just take bets.... NONE of this would be an issue.

Doggie, I don't think any book should care what Don Best does. They should book any way they want to. My problem is with Don Best claiming to have real time lines. This is obviously not true in many cases. Don Best Sports should not claim to do this because it is impossible to do.

You're right on the money as usual. As long as we're talking about instant updates let me through this question out for discussion. Does anybody really believe that Don Best puts the injury information on their screen as soon as they discover it?

Shawnee, Most of the injuries seen on the DBest services are acquired via Sportsticker, TSN or AP. In essence, you are receiving them 3rd and sometimes 4th hand. He sends them out ASAP. Moral: Don't over react to some of this stale info.

Injuries are one of the Hazzards of this Profession. The hardest part of the problem is finding out about them..... and the effect it will have ON THE GAME, and ON THE LINE.

1) Exactly WHEN did the Team or Player make it official that the Player (will/will not) play in the game? Sometimes the Team will wait till an hour before the game starts before knowing if the Player will play. Sometimes the game time decisions NEVER gets released to anyone until AFTER the game starts.

2) How bad are they hurt? That is usually UNKNOWN and almost impossible to get correct. At least if the Player ISN'T playing you have solid proof the Player can't help.

This is the "Dog eat Dog" part of the business. Or you could say it's also part of the reason... they call it GAMBLING. If your a bettor and know about the injuries... it can help you! Same as a Book! If your a Bookie and don't know about injuries..... it can hurt you! Same as a player!

Don Best (or ANYBODY for that matter) Could NEVER get all the injuries CORRECT or ON TIME day after day. It's just not possible......

You cant expect the screen to change immediately every time these guys move, but the screen has to have integrity. If DelMAr made a mistake that is one thing but I have been a premium feed customer since the beginning and knew Al very well. He threw several books off the feed because they didnt honor their numbers on the screen and to keep the service worth the price Dana has to do the same thing.

Birdman- Well said. That's why these problems need to be nipped in the bud, and although some may view it as harsh, they are only sending a message and protecting their product.

All one needs to do is take a look at another well known feed, that allows the books to do as they please. You then have what amounts to a useless product.

Numbers are no good unless you can bet them!
