  • 2000 KYL Awards

Since we are near the end of another football season, I wanted to post thoughts regarding the offshores I used this year. FYI...I make 95% of my wagers via the internet, many times wait until gameday to place a wager and would consider myself to be a "medium" player.

I welcome others to share thoughts and experiences which may prove helpful as I, and others, make decisions on outs for next year....September isn't that far away thank God.

For the sake of ranking, I will score my experience with each from one to five Kyl's in honor of our favorite senator.

OLYMPIC - might as well start with the best. This year was my first with Olympic and it is a keeper. I appreciate their early lines, extensive props and easy to navigate interface. Believe the raves from others, they rank near the top. FIVE KYLS

PREMIERE LEAGUE - I've been with them for years and many times touted them as the best in this form. They now rank as the Dallas Cowboys of sportsbooks....lost their glamour, lost their star players and it's not apparrent anyone cares anymore. Since their mid-season merger, internet site offers late lines, circled games for no reason, no overnights and no props. Maybe it's growing pains maybe they lost sight of what made them good...I won't be around to find out. ONE KYL

ACES GOLD - Certainly very attractive for their no-juice on sides Fridays. Serious and constant early season problems with internet access were fixed by mid-year which was appreciated by those of us with money banked there. Customer service is good until you have an issue with them and then tread carefully. You can also find line variance with this group usually toward the fav early in the week. They pay very, very fast as I got a payout two days later just as promised...very good!! 3.5 KYLS

BOOKIES JOINT - if Bob Stupak owned a book, this would be it...a little weird, a little off center, it's a Joint. Same interface as Millennium which is fine. I had to e-mail twice to get my payout which arrived six days after my request (Fed Ex) which is OK but pales in comparison to Aces. Occasional access problems. 2.5 KYLS

MILLENNIUM - very good sign up bonuses and reliable, accessible interface. I learned not to bet props here (check out their first score odds; usually TD -160 FG -145...ouch). "Bet the Board" feature is useful and you can sometimes find line variance versus some of the others listed here. THREE KYLS

GRAND CENTRAL - Rookie of the Year...very user-friendly site, easy to play cross sport parlays and a nice list of prop bets. Again the "Bet the Board" feature allows multiple bets on various sports. NOTE: this book lets you play varying amounts on the Bet the Board while on Millennium and Bookies Joint you have to play the same amount on each team when using that feature. Service is top notch and I will remain a customer. FOUR KYLS

TOP OF THE WORLD - I attemped to open an account here during the year and, on multiple occasions, got a recording that the number I dialed was not in service. I e-mailed them and they never answered. ZERO KYLS

CASABLANCA - Fastest, most reliable interface I used this year even when it was minutes before gametime. They sometimes have their lines up a bit later than others but a solid book. 3.5 KYLS

CRIS - Picked them up late in the year so I don't have enough experience to KYL them.

One other note....at the beginning of the year it may be a temporary hardship to spread your bankroll among multiple books but, by shopping the lines, I know I increased my take by 2-3% this year by either winning a play or taking a push because of line variance.

My other recommendation is that you always try to find someone at the forum to toss the referral bonus to when you sign-up at a book.

    Good Luck.

    NICE idea, AZBOB or COLORADObob

Since football season is basically over and we are approaching the "danger zone" which is the month of February, a good review would be nice for everyone.

By now, we are all aware that a shop who offers an unbelievalbe bonusses is a very dangerous one. No offense but BETEURO is a typical example and the big question is, who will be the next one? No offense Samantha, but you are my next candidate. I could bet my whole savings that just after the Superbowl someone is going down and my guess is DUNES. I just hope I am wrong since they used to be one of my favs.

    Here are my top five:

    1.) OLYMPIC - 5 stars
    2.) WSEX - 4 stars
    3.) WWTS - 3 stars
    4.) HERITAGE - 2 stars
    5.) PINNACLE - 1 star

I don't have to break it down since it might take me till tomorrow to finish it up. My decision was based on payouts, customer service, lines, softwares. Good luck everyone!!!

Nice job AZ. As an aside note, these books have been with bettorsworld since day 1 and that means 4 solid years..or is it 5?

      1) WWTS
      2) Sands
      3) Post Time
      4) SOS
      5) Superbook
      6) Carib
      7) Intertops
      8) WSEX

I believe that covers the initial group. i apologize to any book i missed any. This group has withstood the test of time and if bworld longevity is a criteria, then consider them. All good books!

Well, if it's football related only I'll go with this:

        1. Olympic (anyone else got on their early season lines? Mich -7 over Penn State comes to mind) Props, props and more props... Issue: Why do they have to take all the props down 5 minutes before game time instead of game time like everybody else?
        2. WSEX - nothing beats the interactives win or lose. Getting a feel for the game and not having to wait until the second half is just too good!
        3. Intertops - You say WHAT? Yeah, the bet this game and get 20% of your bet for this game thing did it for me...
        4. WWW - Was lucky enough to win a free account from BW with these guys and used it up. You can usually get a dog at +0.5 to +1.5 better than anywhere else there... Downloading the software is fast and it's easy to use... Only think that pissed me off was that they took the whole think down as soon as the last game of the night got underway. Thus, you have to wait til noon the next day to see the results of your plays...
        5. Darwin - Yeah, they have off center lines and if you're shopping around they'll come in handy. Hate doing the math conversion for curency exchange though...
        6. WWTS - A bit hard to navigate and I got my ass kicked by them so I have to put them this low..

May all your bets be winners

Very helpful write-up, azbob. Perhaps the single most valuable resource we have here is the experience of our fellow bettors. Each of is can serve as a guinea pig for the others—using different books and reporting back how things went. I definitely appreciate posts like yours and regard them as significant evidence for me to use in making future decisions about what books to sign up with.

Of the ones you mention, I have used Olympic, Aces Gold, Grand Central, and Casablanca.

          A few comments:

I’ve been very pleased with Olympic also. It’s easy to see why everyone raves about them on these forums.

Thanks for the feedback on Premiere League. Though I haven’t used them yet, prior to recent developments they were on my short list of books to try next. Now I’m a lot less inclined to.

Top of the World also is one I have been seriously considering using in the future, but what you report is indeed troubling. Usually the best customer service you get from a book is when they’re trying to entice you to become a customer. If they’re non-responsive even at that stage, that’s a pretty bad sign for what to expect later.

You were pretty persistent with them too. When I was researching books a few months ago, I narrowed it down to fifteen or so, intending to join 7-10 of those. I e-mailed all of them with various questions. Three or four never responded. Because the others all did respond—and impressed me with what they told me—I never bothered giving a second chance to those three or four because I had more than enough without them.

That’s not to say that I might not try them some time in the future, but this is a buyer’s market. There are a lot of good quality books out there, more than I or most people need. The dynamics of the situation is that, in effect, a savvy customer is looking for reasons to rule a place out.

It’s like when 100 people apply for a job where there’s one opening. The employer needs a few simplistic rules for weeding it down to a manageable number to consider more seriously. For me, failing on something so simple as responding to a prospective customer’s e-mail was enough to put you to the back of the line.

It’s hard to overstate how valuable a no juice special like that of Aces Gold is. That deserves to be highlighted in any discussion of the pros and cons of the various books.

Can you explain what “Bet the Board” is? Are you just referring to the convenience of being able to place multiple bets at once rather than having to keep returning to various screens and enter them each one at a time? Or are you referring to something that’s actually a different form of wager?

I thought Casablanca’s website was fine, but I don’t know that I would have singled it out as the fastest. WSEX is ridiculously fast—basically instantaneous--and it seems like Olympic and some others are at least as fast as Casablanca.

I definitely concur with your observation about having multiple outs. It’s a good reminder for beginner to intermediate bettors. I had more outs this year than any previous year, and I’m more likely to increase than decrease that number in the future. People forget how much little things add up. Even a modest difference like getting –4.5 instead of –5 is worth taking. What’s wrong with having even just a 1% or 2% or 3% better chance of winning your bet?

          Anyway, thanks for the report.

zippy...you are right in your definition of "bet the board"...multiple wagers at the same time....Grand Central has the easiest interface to do this
