William Hill reported to the Englysh Press that they got killed on this game as punters
backed West Ham from 10/1 to 5/1.

OzVamp has give a huge list - Which probably is good for starting odds, butt when fluctuations kick in then bookies have only themselves to cover with hedge bets...

Here's an interesting article on the punter
who keeps on finding winning underdogs in the FA Cup

Tranmere celebrate and so does London punter.

AGONY AND ECSTASY FOR CUP PUNTER

A London gambler who won £22,000 when Kingstonian beat Southend in the
last round of the FA Cup nearly collected again after staking £3000 on them
      at 10-1 against Bristol City.

The non-league side were within seconds of dumping City out at Ashton Gate before a last-minute equaliser foiled the gamble.

However, he did make another big profit - collecting £14,000 winnings after staking £2000 on Tranmere to beat Everton at 7-1.

Tranmere coasted past their mersey neighbours 3-0 at Goodison.

"This man, who places his bets in one of our East London branches, certainly
knows how to pick out a giant-killer," said Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe.

why do people naturally assume that when a favourite gets beaten, the bookies automatically get to buy a new Rolls-Royce?

There's no law that says punters must back the favourites!!

          Boris:
          Right on...

Butt lets *anal*yze this weekend's FA games just a bit.

MANUtd huge favourites, eyes set on treble with League championship in the bag - Getting ready for resumption of European CLeague play in a couple of weeks - not lookibg for any injuries.

West Ham Utd- on the other hand improving rapidly since pathetic start to season (They were bottom at one stage) looking for more gate money and possibility of sneaking into Evropa!

Dog chasers see this as a great possibility and at 10/1 this is a overlay of megaproportions.

Lets look at another huge dog result!

          Everton 0 - Tranmere Rovers 3

Lets not get fancy here but Everton has more players on ice-packs than fit ones playing on the field. Tranmere Rovers - who are they??? Well open the Form guide and you will notice that this team last year blew out Sunderland in the 4th Round and just getting nipped in the 6th Round by Newcastle Utd. (2-3) Lets also add the fact that Tranmere Rovers also made it to the 1999/2000 Worthington Cup Final(only to be beaten by Leicester City) and you have a huge knockout Cup specialist!!!!

Are you ready for some more!!!

          Bristol City 1 - Kingstonian 1

Ahhh The Romance of the FA CUP! Kingstonian ??? Non League minnows - Struggling in the Conference and now their opportunity to make some buckeroo$$$$.
Bristol City equalize in th 94th minute...
Ho hum!!! Butt the 5th Round has been drawn and Kingstonian now know who awaits them -
          Premier League Leicester City...
Do you think they are motivated???

You've got a point there kw, hard to believe anyone would back the Hammers in a game like that. A non-league team like Kingstonian, why not, and Tranmere in a local derby, why not, but not West Ham at Man U

unless you knew Man U weren't interested in the Cup I guess

On handicap in dodgy weather you'd certainly consider it

Next time you're in London, try walking in to a William Hill betting shop and place a £3000 cash bet on a 10/1 shot & £2000 on a 7-1 shot.

The chances of the bets being accepted? Probably about the same that Hills are telling the truth.

Personally, I would prefer to hear about these mystery punters and their monster punts BEFORE game time?

BTW, The Sun - Britain's largest circulation newspaper - did manage to track down one West Ham punter yesterday. He had £10 on Di Canio first goal & West Ham to win 1-0, and it paid 100/1. He had the betting slip to prove it, too.

                      Tip-Ex:

You obviously haven't been following the Reuters threads about the puter who has been hitting longshots in the FA Cup 3rd/4th Round.

He had Kingstonian in the 3rd Round for a big win and nearly got away with Dagenham & Redbridge. Then he came back strong with Tranmere Rovers.

William Hill usually blurbs about their big losses only to incite more interest (and more losers) into the punting game...

BTW -: I thought West Ham United would play a perfect draw against the toothless Spurs. Mhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

                        Fedya,

I have been following it, that's the problem. I found this recently in another forum where they printed reports from website onefootball.com . Pretty much sums it up.

                        Friday 5th January 2001

William Hill have taken the largest sum they have ever had wagered on a non-League side from a Dagenham and Redbridge fan who fancies his side's chances in the FA Cup.

The supporter has staked £1,000 at odds of 18/1 on Dagenham winning at Charlton Athletic in Saturday's third round FA Cup game.

Hills make Charlton 1/10 favourites to win the game with the draw an 11/2 shot.

"This telephone punter has only ever had one previous bet with us," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe, "and it was a loser - we'll be a little surprised if he breaks his duck with this latest wager, bold though it is."

The punter stopped short of backing Dagenham to win the Cup, for which Hills quote them at 10,000/1.

                        -

                        Saturday 6th January 2001

A William Hill punter was celebrating on Saturday night after staking a £4,000 bet on Kingstonian to beat Southend United in the FA Cup at odds of 11/2.

The wager made a profit of £22,000 - and it was nearly £36,000 more - because he also staked £2,000 on Dagenham at 18/1 to beat Charlton.

"The man, who we have never seen before, turned up in one of our branches in the City of London to place his bets on Saturday morning," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

It was the most money ever staked on a non-league side with William Hill.
