  • A NEW QUESTION...

A PLAYER OPENS A PAGE IN AN INTERNET SPORTSBOOK AND IS LOGGED ON.

THE SPORT PAGE HE IS LOGGED ONTO HAS A HEADING RIGHT OVER THE LINE THAT SAYS IT IS GOOD FOR A MAXIMUM PLAY OF ONE DIME AND THAT ALL OVERLIMIT PLAYS WILL BE DELETED.

THE PLAYER SETS UP HIS PLAY ON THE INTERNET AND ALL HE HAS TO DO IS CONFIRM THE WAGER.

THE PLAYER NOW CALLS ON THE PHONE AND PLACES A MAX LIMIT BET FOR A DIME ON THE PHONE.

HE THEN CONFIRMS HIS INTERNET BET FOR AN ADDITIONAL DIME.

IS THE SPORTSBOOK LIABLE FOR THE OVER LIMIT PLAY GIVEN THE FACT THAT IT IS CLEARLY STATED THAT OVER LIMIT BETS WILL BE DELETED?

    INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW...

    REALITY

Unless the player was called BEFORE game time that his second bet not valid, the bet should stand. I look at that rule and assume that 1000 is the internet limit. Assuming the bet won, the book should pay the player and then warn him about circumventing their limits.

In my opinion yes, because if he stated to them on the phone that he has already bet one dime on the net and now wants another dime, and its accepted then they know he's over the limit.

            Oh, big difference.

So you're saying that he called in and made a bet for 1 dime then while on the phone or after hanging up he was logged in and made another dime bet?

If so he should have asked for the higher bet and seen if they would have just given it to him.

What I would do is tell him not to do this again as their is a limit, but I would go ahead and honor the bet.

              Reality,
If I see this correct the way that I read it is: The line that is posted is good for one dime, if it is Pick,or -1½ does not matter. I think that if the line moves the player can bet it again for another dime. Before someone asks this question if the line moves from Pick to -1, and then back to Pick yes the person can bet it at Pick again...Thanks again and I hope this helps.

Well if it says the Line is good for one dime then I see your point but does it say line or game? I know reality said line, but now i'm looking at it from your point of view.

Boy do you have some shifty customers !

If the guy is so intent on betting over the limit, why the heck does he not post up with a book that takes that sort of action?

If the system isn't integrated with the phones, the book should have separate usernames and passwords. One for internet and one for phones.

Either the player plays on the net or he plays on the phone. This solves the problem.

With most books, it's integrated. You place a wager over the net, and then call in to wager on the phone, the system won't let the clerk enter the wager.

The way this system is set up (realitys example), it favors the book. The player CAN'T win a dispute. The player exceeds the limit. The wager wins, the book cries foul. The wager loses, the book takes the money.

Never once has a player come to me and said, hey, I just want to give xyz book a plug. I exceeded their limits, my bet lost, and they chased me down to give me my money back.

Contrary to what one particular bookmaker thinks, there are times when a player makes an honest mistake or simply doesn't know the limits.

Are books in business to write action or turn it away? Whatever happened to the definition of limits? Take the bets, and move the number. Take more bets and move the number again. What difference does it make who gets the number? A bet is a bet.

Lastly, REALITY'S post is based on actual events.

As a suggesstion to the book, it's probably wise to keep your "bookmaker" off the phones and away from the customers. Because if he treats the customers with as much disregard as he treated me today, you won't have many customers left. A real class act.

If a player did that he would fall in that 5% catagory...BUT, it's still the book's responsibility to contact the player before game time. If they don't, the bet should stand.
