Ventura prefers sports betting to casino: Gov. Jesse Ventura says he would rather legalize sports betting than have the state build a casino that would compete with existing tribal casinos.
In an interview on Minnesota Public Radio's Midmorning program, Ventura described wagering on sports as a $2 billion industry that, if legalized, could generate tax revenues.
``I would think the way to make the money on gambling is to open up sports betting and allow a sports book to be out there because that way you're not infringing upon the Native Americans' casinos, and yet you get the revenues I guess that everyone is desiring from the world of gambling,'' he said.
Two lawmakers have suggested the state build and run a casino to generate $100 million dollars in revenues, but Ventura said he opposes that idea.
