"Theoretically your chance of winning is less than 6/1"

          WTF?

This has to go down as the most insulting 'promotion' that I have yet seen.

The sad thing is that some people will probably actually ante-up $100 for this nonsense.

What's wrong with you, 'Superbook'? You should be embarassed to even put this crap up here.

But i'm sure that you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

                6/1 my ar$e? I make it closer to 1000/1

Your "lucky" 10 are: (odds from canbet, but i am sure you could do better, but who gives a rats as if your betting on this sort of rubbish then you need your head examined)

                Iona +75000 @ 100 = $75,000
                Princeton +100000 @ 100 = $100,000
                Cal State Northridge +50000 @ 100 = $50,000
                Eastern Illinois +100000 @ 100 = $100,000
                Holy Cross + 100000 @ 100 = $100,000
                Hampton +100000 @ 100 = $100,000
                Monmouth +100000 @ 100 = $100,000
                UNC Greensboro +5000 @ 100 = $50,000
                Winthrop +100000 @ 100 = $100,000
                North West State +100000 @ 100 = $100,000

It begs the question how much is your Merc worth? It better be worth close to $100,000 to make it worth while..

And is that $100 USD or can I use Yen, or Lira?

I think you guys are being too harsh. From the odds that Bookiebar posted, the payoff looks to be about right for this kind of long-shot proposition. I'm assuming the value of the Mercedes is around $50K.

Typical British crap. Heads I win, tails you lose. These guys will never compete with Vegas and its outgrowth.

I think guys you need to loosen up - this 'promotion' was only ever intended as a bit of fun and hopefully to raise a smile.

I know as well as you do that it is extremely unlikely that any of these teams can win.

                        Bookiebar,
At the School I went to if you have ten teams playing for you in a 65 team Tournament THEORETICALLY, (if all teams were equal) you will win 1 in every 6½ Tournaments.

What is the point in even posting up prices for these teams??
Probably none - so the intention of my 'promotion' was merely to attract interest.

In the UK we call them Novelty Bets and there only purpose is to get people talking. I saw a price with W****** H*** for the World to End on 31st December 2001 @ 10,000,000,000/1. What's the point in that? How would you collect??

It raised a smile with me and I told others 'down the pub'- this was all our 'promotion' was ever intended to achieve.

                        DeacDoug,
                        What's your problem???
We are offering a $50,000 car for $100 which gives you odds of 500/1 about 10 teams winning the Tourney.

Using Bookiebar's prices, if you bet $100 on all ten teams (which you would need to, if you want the same chance of winning) and Greensboro or Cal State Northridge win you return $50,000 BUT you have to stake a $1,000 ($900 lose). Odds 50/1 - I know what I would prefer to bet.

I don't want to compete with Vegas Casinos, although in many cases you will find the UK style very competitive. Try betting a golfer to win the US Masters in Vegas, and then compare our prices and see who gives the punter a fairer deal.

Walk into any betting shop in the UK and play the slots - these machines, by law, have to be set at a minimum of a certain percentage payout(sorry I don't know the exact amount around 80% of the take). Walk into a Casino in Vegas, and, if they wanted to, they could set any machine to return 20% if they so wished - wouldn't send me rushing to play them.
Nice of some of the old school to see the humour in my post - AussieVamp, Sportshobby, and a few new faces, to me anyway.

                        Thanks for your support.
To the others, time to loosen up, and I wish you luck in your quest to have the most posts.
Maybe this one will give you a chance to reply again, and get you ever nearer your goal.

As for our 'promotion', it's now the 'Mercedes 9'and just for that I will throw in a 'new' Rolex on the front seat of your new Mercedes, and drive you round myself for 6 months - sorry I'm not available during Football Season.

                        Good luck to you all,

                        Gregg Rathbone

Gregg, you should be embarrassed to put up such a ridiculous prop bet. You say there is, "no catch", or did you mean to say there is, "no chance". We American bettors do not like sucker bets. I would be curious to know how many fools donated $100 for this bogus chance of winning a Mercedes.

Intended to hopefully raise a smile? I don't like to be negative but with all due respect whose face was that smile intended to be attached to?

Greg, firstly I do see the humour in the bet, heck I saw the first ever live hamster race the other week at bluesq (complete madness! god know what the world is coming to). I was just commenting on the fact that the Merc had better be worth at least $50,000 USD to make it a worth while, and that most people willing to bet $100 bucks on ANY of these teams to win the championship will probably not be hanging out on this forum.

Also the odds of any of these teams may well be THEORETICALLY 6/1, but it is ACTUALLY closer to 1000/1 saying that the odds are 6/1 is just a bit misleading I feel, but I guess thats the whole point.

I also think those odds on the world ending are a bit low, might get a bit of that action

                              Holy Cross LOST
                              Hampton WON !!
                              Monmouth LOST
                              UNC Greensboro LOST
