Neteller disappointment...

Recently a few friends of mine from Central Europe who bet with various books wanted to sign up with Neteller and carry out their transactions through them. Unfortunately they have had no success with opening up their accounts. It seems that Neteller has a prejudice about being open to the world - they simply don't want to be a global system.

Personally I can't find a single reason why I should trust Neteller. They could be as dodgy as a sportsbook based on Mars. Nobody can vouch for them, nobody knows how safe they are, they have no track record... it doesn't seem like they're open about anything...

maybe true. All i can say is, empirically, they seem to be solid. I've transferred at least 50K without a hitch. Love em. Yet, I suppose, I could wake up one day and my bank account is emptied from a withdrawl I never requested...

cons, have to agree with the 'could be as dodgy' as anything

I have had the same experience, too, if not North American, then nowhere near as interested

although some others have used it ok

I have had no problems with them, and I for one am nowhere near the US.

If they are so dodgy then why does basically every single big name US type bookmaker now use them?

Below is a list of all those that must accept that neteller isn't dodgy, if they did then why would they be on THEIR (netellers) list...

NOTE 14 (over 50%) of the books on the BW list are on the neteller list, so 14 of the advertisers on this site trust neteller with THEIR money. (could be slightly off on the number, a few of the names confuse me, and some of these books may be owned by others).

Cons, what was the problem? I opened an account two weeks ago and if I remember it right, I only had to change what I wrote to the ZIP field after the first try.

I think the question here is, how solid neteller is? The safest way to do it is, use neteller as a "transfer" between funds NOT as bank most especially if you are dealing with large amount. Bottom line, don't ever leave a mid five figure in your neteller account even overnight, besides there is no reason of doing it.

I didn't say they're dodgy, I just mentioned they could be dodgy... My friends had trouble signing up, they had their accounts blocked even before they deposited any funds. They received emails stating that Neteller would not operate in their country, which makes this operation look dodgy to me. Western Union has no problem, they've been offering services in those countries for years...

Underdog raises a fine point, stating that you shouldn't park your money at Neteller. But I remember reading a post recently about book-to-book transfers. Apparently someone did one of those book-to-book transfers, and then months later the receiving book wiped the money off his account claiming that they never got the money of the original book in the first place. This raises an important question: when is the money in your account actually yours? If I transfer funds from book X to book Z and a few months book Z says, "sorry, the funds never made it," I think that's unfair. Once money is credit to your account I think the sportsbook should honour it.

So what happens if I make a Neteller deposit and then a few months later the book tells me that none of the money ever arrived. If that happens then I will lose all trust in that book. Once a book veryfies your balance it should be as safe as gold. Thus, if they verify my Neteller transfer, then that decision should be final. If Neteller goes bust the next day, I'll still expect my money to be there. Maybe books should be a bit more clear on this before we start to use Neteller...

Don't know if this matters or not, but I wouldn't touch 95% of the books (on the Neteller list) with a barge pole...
