    Gators' Dupay under investigation

Report: Player's relationship with bookie being probed

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (CNNSI.com) - An investigation into a possible violation of student conduct code by Florida basketball star Teddy Dupay reportedly centers around the player's relationship with a Jacksonville bookmaker.

It is unknown what exactly Dupay's involvement with the bookmaker was, several sources close to the Gators' program told the Gainesville Sun on Tuesday. Dupay has not been suspended, but will "face disciplinary action" if he is found guilty of any wrongdoing, a Florida basketball official told the paper.
When asked about Dupay, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said the school was "aware of a possible violation of the student conduct code as it relates to one of our student-athletes."

Foley, in a statement Tuesday, said officials would have no further comment, citing the Buckley Amendment, which protects a student's privacy and prevents administrators from commenting about a specific player.

Dupay's mother, Pamela, said she did not know of any possible problems that could jeopardize her son's career at Florida but was aware of the school's scrutiny of her son. She said her son plans to play for the Gators next season.

"They can investigate, but he hasn't done anything, so let them look. I just think it's all a bunch of bull," she told Florida Today in Wednesday editions. Through a spokesman, Florida coach Billy Donovan would not comment.

Florida director of compliance Jamie McCloskey confirmed there are "some disciplinary matters that we are looking into." He said the NCAA is not investigating the matter.

Last season was somewhat of a roller coaster for the junior shooting guard. Dupay was cited, but not charged, for breaking a security gate at his apartment complex. He irritated Donovan by criticizing Florida fans when only 8,055 showed up for the Gators' home opener against Florida Atlantic. He was suspended one game for an unspecified violation of team rules.

But Dupay returned just 20 days after surgery for a herniated disc in his lower back to lead the Gators to the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive season.

As nine of the 10 Florida scholarship athletes played a informal pick-up game at the O'Connell Center on Tuesday, Dupay was the only player absent, the Sun reported. Meanwhile Foley met behind closed doors in the basketball offices with Donovan to discuss the situation.
This is not the first time Florida athletes have been the subject of a gambling-related investigation. In 1989 the Florida football team suspended quarterbacks Shane Matthews and Kyle Morris, as well as walk-ons Brady Ackerman and G.A. Mangus for betting on pro and college football games. None of the college games bet involved the Gators, but the players were suspended for the final six games of the season.

Dupay ranks third in school history with 188 career 3-pointers and second with 496 attempts. He is also seventh on Florida's career free-throw percentage list (80.4), is tied for 10th in career assists (253) and is 20 points shy of 1,000 points.
