  • Canadian Dollar Accounts at Sportsbooks

I'm a Canadian which immediately puts me at a disadvantage when it comes to wagering off shore. The primary reason is currency conversions. If you play in $US and break even, you'll lose roughly 6% on converting the $CDN to $US and back again if you cash out.

Thankfully some books let you wager in Canadian Dollars. Bowman's for example will issue Canadian dollar cheques for payouts so you can Western Union the money to them and have them pay you by cheque in Canadian dollars when you redeem part or all of your balance.

Other books, like SportsInteraction will let you open an account in Canadian Dollars however every transaction (despite their supposed location in Canada) will be in $US. For example I cashed out some money last week but was sent a $US cheque (mailed from Canada) which stiffed me by 3% or so if I wanted to convert that amount back to Canadian.

My question, for other Canucks is this:

What books let you play in Canadian dollars? And be specific, as in whether they will pay you in Canadian dollars (like Bowmans) or US dollars (like SportsInteraction).

Have you checked with Wagerstreet.com ? They are also located in Canada....

I would think books should take notice of this, considering the large number of Canadian players.

WWTS offers accounts in both US and Canadian funds. US accounts are paid in US currency and Canadian accounts are paid in Canadian currency.

Please feel free to contact our Marketing Department at 1-800-BET-WWTS and your account can be activated within minutes of your call.

Remember the bottom line is WE PAY.

Intertops offers multi currency including Canadian accounts but the problem is you get killed coming and going... If you're depositing with a CC, they with take your amount, convert it to US$(1), then your credit card gets charged the equivalent of US$. Your bill is in CAD$, so the CC has to convert it from US$(2). Finally when you withdraw money back to the CC your CAD$ funds get converted to US$(3) and the credit card credits you CAD$(4).

So you end up losing money at each of the 4 steps I mentioned above. Figure about 1.5% each time, so you're out at least 6% of your money. Best thing to do is to have a US $ bank account in Canada and/or a US based credit card.
