  • island express to be 99 dollars a month again!!!

I still cannot believe this. It is listed on the Don Best home page. Does anyone out there know of any free line services? IE will keep a free service, but it will be FIFTEEN minutes delayed!!! A lot of good that will do. So IE gives us a choice...a free service 15 minutes delayed, or a 2 minute delayed service for 99 dollars a month. Please, are there any other choices out there? Some of us cannot afford to pay for this.

Have you tried instant odds lately? I couldn't get it to work. I hate to say it, but it looks like Jim Feist will be the best one to use after Island Express charges again. Please, isn't there any other free service out there?

Jacmar, where did you read that the service was going to be paid by the player again? I can't find it on the Don Best website.

The IX that is free right now is pretty much total crap if you are a serious decent sized player. If they think that anyone would pay the $99, they are dumb.

It's official guys... I just got this e-mail directly from DBS:

                  July 11, 2001

DBS set to debut Island Express Platinum

LAS VEGAS -- Beginning on July 15, Don Best Sports will offer two
versions of Island Express for customers seeking a less expensive
alternate to the DBS Premium Service.

The free version of Island Express will display odds that are updated
every 15 minutes from all IE sports books.

It also will include highlighted line changes, scores, a customizable
casino setup feature, injury reports and picks from the world-class DBS
                  handicappers.

IE Platinum will be similar to the current version of Island Express,
with some additional features that are available on the DBS Premium
Service. The cost of IE Platinum will be an affordable $99 per month.

However, DBS is offering a special rate for the upcoming football
season. Sign up today and receive IE Platinum through Super Bowl XXXVI
                  for just $429.

That's more than 6½ months of service at a savings of roughly $214.

The new IE Platinum will display live odds updated every two minutes,
highlighted line changes, wise guy or "steam" plays, free selections and
                  upgraded Premium Service injury reports.

One of the most valuable features of the DBS Premium Service is urgent
messages. These alerts -- in the form of pop-up screens -- will be
transmitted to IE Platinum customers on a five-minute delayed basis.

That means whenever a significant player is scratched or suspended, or a
pitching change occurs, or any late-breaking news happens that could
have a material impact on the outcome of a game, you will be notified.
This critical information will automatically appear on your computer
screen -- provided you are logged onto IE Platinum.

IE Platinum account holders also will have access to these features,
                  which are available on DBS2K:

                  * Scores and box scores from every game
                  * Ability to print odds from every listed sports book
                  * Lineups and umpire assignments
                  * Date, time and pitcher changes in red font color
                  * Manipulation of the order in which casinos are appear
                  * A listing of previous prices to determine which way a game is moving

                  ****************************************
A new facet of IE Platinum coming in the next several months is "Click &
                  Bet."

This exciting feature will allow IE Platinum customers the ability to
click on any available line. From the IE Platinum odds menu, they will
be linked directly to that particular sports book for convenient betting
                  purposes.
                  ****************************************

User names and passwords will remain active for existing Island Express
customers for the new free version of IE.

Please visit our Web site on July 10 for instructions on how to sign up
for Island Express Platinum. For answers to questions concerning IE
Platinum, please call 1-800-DON-BEST, OPTION 5 or write to us, and a
customer service representative will quickly reply.

The real question is whether this new version will be much improved over the current service. For the books NOT on the premium service, the lines were not reliably updated. Some days fine, other days the book will be missing altogether, other days just not updating properly. If it is not reliable every day, then it isn't worth 50 cents.

As far as I am concerned, I used Island Express for the line changes. If I can find a service that can give me the changes in the same time or sooner for free, why would I pay 99 dollars a month for a two minute delay? I have been checking Offshore Connection this week. As much as I have nothing good to say about Jim Feist, the Offshore Connection seems to be faster than Island Express. Only drawback is you have to hit the refresh manually. But you can't beat the price...its free!!!!!
