  • How Many Of You...

Came home from work today only to find stacks of mail from many different offshore books, scamdicappers, etc.? Much more than usual. You know they are looking for all new suckers, I mean customers.

Of course we can just throw them in the garbage, but isn't it getting to the point of being ridiculous?

THE BIG QUESTION is, WHO is selling our names to these companies? Of course, no one is going to admit to it. You know that the couple of existing offshore places I use are NOT selling my name, unless they also own one of the new places.

For these companies to get our names and addresses, they would have to be getting them from the few forums that we sign up with. If we use nicknames for forums, it is amazing that our REAL names and addresses are on the mail. HOW CAN THIS BE?

They are spending tons of money just to lure in new customers.

    Best of Luck,
    Groz

There's all kinds of ways your name could get out there.....everything from calling a scorephone to the ways you mention with one book owning other books.

There was once a credit card processing company which, wouldn't you know, also owned an offshore book! So these guys would process transactions for other books and convienently end up with all their customers!

There have also been cases of workers at books making off with the customer lists.

Not to mention the strong ties some touts have with offshore books.

    It's one big cirlce.

I suspect that Western Union is selling my name because my phone number is listed under another person's name (and I have to supply this to Western Union when using a credit card over the phone) and that person gets a bunch of sportsbook promo mail even though they've never wagered offshore.

at some point you have to face facts. the scumbags in this business are looking to bleed all of you dry if you let them. they will stop at nothing to accomplish this. touts owned by sportsbooks, sportsbooks owned by touts, watchdogs owned by sportsbooks, sportsbooks owned by watchdogs, it never ends. players out there are just sitting ducks waiting to be had by the next scam.

              Groz,

Not much you can do about the places that already have your name/email/home address. But here are a couple of resources I've found useful in reducing the number of unwanted email and mail.

To cut down on spam: http://www.spamex.com/
This site provides disposable email addresses. Create new one and use it when you sign up somewhere. If you start getting spammed, you'll be able to track it easily.

To cut down on junk mail: http://www.obviously.com/junkmail/
              or http://www.cpsr.org/cpsr/privacy/junkmail.html
Lots of good resources and ideas - including getting rid of telemarketing calls.
