  • UFC FIXED???

I SEE WHERE A HANDFUL OF SPORTSBOOKS TAKE WAGERING ON THE UFC AKA NO HOLDS BARRED KICKING THE SH|T OUT OF EACH OTHER

IS THE UFC LEGIT? OR IS IT TO SOME EXTENT FIXED? NOT THAT THE MATCHES ARE CHOREOGRAPHED LIKE PRO RASSLIN' BUT DON'T THEY KNOW THE WINNERS IN ADVANCE USUALLY, LIKE SOMETIMES HAPPENS IN BOXING AND HORSERACING?

UFC---ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP OR UNTRUE FAKE CHARADE???

The UFC is a true sporting event. They are sanctioned by both the New Jersey and Nevada Athletic Commissions. Vegas posts lines in several sports books as well as MVP. The reason you don't see more is that it's hard for book to put up a good line.

The other major MMA event is Pride out of Japan ( there has been an occasional "worked" fight there, but it is rare ).

Definitely not WWF type stuff !!!!

Is Gracy still fighting? I used to love watching that guy take on those monsters and kick their asses.

Somewhere along the line the UFC lost it's appeal though.

Hi Dragon - Royce Gracie last fought in Pride against Sakuraba. Special Gracie rules, 15 minute rounds with no limit on the number of rounds. Royce's corner "threw in the towel" in the 7th round after 90 minutes of fighting. In the early 90's Royce ( and his brother Rickson ) were unstoppable beating BIG guys.

The sport has caught up with them with many fighters now trained in multiple disciplines.

I personally prefer MMA fighting to boxing these days.

The UFC is back on PPV. Next event is Jan 11. Tito Ortiz is the new "poster boy".

Thanks JPet. I recall Gracie, Shamrock, and some guy called the Animal, or something close. He was a brawler. But like I said, I lost touch with it a few years back. I think maybe they saturated the market with it.

Hi Dragon - you're definitely thinking of Tank Abbott. Both he and Ken Shamrock went to the WWF ( the fake stuff ) and each made a million a year for 3 or 4 years.

The "new" UFC is actually quite good. It's sanctioned by both the the New Jersey and Nevada Commissions which enabled their return to PPV.

I'm affilated with a local MMA event ( Rage in the Cage ) here in Arizona. We've had 36 shows over the past 3 years. We got sanctioned by the Arizona State Boxing Commission in August. Visit our web site at www.rageinthecage.com ( there's a lot of good links ).

Yeah! Tank. That was it. With the goatee. A million a year huh? I didn't think the wwf paid THAT well. I remember the UFC was starting to get banned in several states back then. I also recall that after Tank and those guys, the fights started to lose their luster. There was too much grappling and not enough of the Tank stuff. I understand that's not what it's all about. It's the art of their chosen method, but you can't beat and old fashioned anything goes brawl! Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I'm actually surprised anyone would post odds on this. Not that it's not legit, but last I checked these guys weren't exactly making big time money. Seems risky.

Hi Jeff - two items. MVP Sports has a $500 limit and the Las Vegas Books that post have a $1000 limit. The money is getting bigger. Tito Ortiz is making about $200K per fight. The UFC offered Ken Shamrock $200K to face Tito but he wanted $500K !!!!

The prelim fighters get $5K minimum which isn't much but if they don't win they don't "move up the ladder". With the low maximum bets, the books could quickly tell if someone was going to "throw" a fight.

Not a bad sport to bet, I follow it so closely it's fairly easy to place "good" bets.
