WHAT ARE YOUR EXPERIENCES WITH THESE SYSTEMS? I AM PARTICULARY INTERESTED IN PLAYING SPORTS LIKE HOCKEY, FOOTBALL, BASEBALL, AND BASKETBALL

Can't help you with that question. My favorite is still that tennis game with the bar on each side that you move up and down to hit the ball.

Everyone will tell you the Cube & X-box are tops but I've owned Play Station 2 since it came out & it is just as good if not better! You still can't get all the games on the other 2 but Play Station 2 has them all. X-box has been noted to have all kinds of glitches in the system & bad customer service to boot. (Max Payne-Grand theft auto-Grand tourismo III are cool! They have an ass-kickin casino game also but No cash pops out when you win but better yet you don't have to pay when you lose!

Intellevision is the best. There is nothing like playing Some Intellevision Space Invaders, Pong, or Boxing, while Listening to some 8 Tracks, and slipping a Cassette into the ole Sony Betamax.

FINALLY!!! a topic in these forums that i know something about!

playstation2 has a real edge here simply because of it's backward compatability with original playstation games and the vast number of titles available. x-box is hands down the winner as far as processing/graphical capability goes though.

as far as sports games go, i have never been dissapointed in ANY sports titles from Electronic Arts, and i've been playing them since 96! specifically, their NHL and NFL titles are absolutely incredible and get better every year.

one note: no matter how good your gaming system is, the quality of the picture will never rival what you'll get on a computer monitor. a lot of folks don't go for the computer games because they want to kick back on the couch and play, which is understandable. keep in mind though that the resolution of a normal television is no where near that of a computer monitor. a game that looks killer on a t.v. will look a WHOLE lot better on a monitor.

try these links for some excellent info and reviews:

My problem is that I have no one to play with. I stopped getting games because no matter which game system I used, it was just too tough to beat the computer. Have their been any modifications on this with these new game systems? I only play sports games...baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. And if so, which sports games gives the player a chance at beating the computer? Thanks.

absolutely. the newer systems offer much improved AI (artificial intelligence) which makes the computer opponents more realistic as far as reaction and anticipation goes. you might initially think that this would make it HARDER to defeat a computer opponent, but in fact it's just the opposite. also, most newer titles allow you to set the opponents skill level to your liking and the teams are accurate reflections of the real teams skill level. so if you're just getting started, you could square off against say the bills or the panthers till you get the hang of it.

also keep in mind that the newer systems offer modem connectivity. this means that you can compete against someone across town or across the country. performance can be touchy here and if you really want to do the long distance battle thing regularly, i would recommend sticking with computer based games. pretty much every respectable sports title for the pc offers modem/internet connection capability.

Can you give me a few titles of sportsgames that I would be able to hold my own against the computer? One for each sport would be good. I had NHL 1999, and 2000 for the computer as well as for Nintendo 64 and was lucky to be able to score a goal, let alone win a game. The All Star baseball game for Nintendo 64 was a bust for me as well. I never could hit the ball, and game up so many runs, I couldn't keep track. Also, do you suggest I play these games on a game system or on the computer. My computer is 3 years old, but I don't know if I want to invest 300 dollars on a new game system. Thanks.

Jacmar, they sell the codes on the net that allow you to beat the computer.

What are the titles of some of the realistic sports games? Years ago EA Sports games were pretty realistic.

the_beav, the first line of your first reply literally took the words right out of my mouth!

Checkers, one other point that may or may not matter to you is that X-Box and PS2 are also capable of playing DVD movies as well as games. We're certainly not talking top-of-the-line DVD player functions, but it can be a nice bonus. Last I heard only the Japanese version of Gamecube plays DVD movies. Of course, the cost of the X-Box or PS2 are about the same as the cost of a Gamecube + an entry-level DVD player.

I own a PS2 and am very happy with it. However, for me it was a no-brainer decision because of the backward compatability with PS1 titles - of which I own several. My guess is that for you backwards compatability probably doesn't matter a whole lot because people that like to play sports games rarely go back to playing older versions of those games (player changes, rule changes, inferior graphics).

Also my hatred/distrust of Microsoft would preclude me from getting the X-Box anyway - but that's just my personal view.

The bottom line is that X-Box probably has graphical superiority (when it works), Gamecube has the "Mario" and future "Resident Evil" copyrights (probably not important to you) and PS2 has a FAR greater selection of titles available to play right now (and probably in the future).

Actually, the BOTTOM line is that I could have bought all 3 systems MANY MANY times over for what I got stiffed out of at Aces... but that's not your problem

                              Hope this helps.
