  • What Sports Market/Aces Gold's demise means to industry

Hey guys,,, this is Chester for those who know me... I have been in the midst of a divorce (basically final) for a long time thus my dissapearance. Anyway I have these comments to make. I was a fan of Charlie and JR for several years. They gave me good advice when I started Galaxy and asked nothing for it. We always had a profesional relationship and I told everyone they were stand up guys because that's what I believed. Also, because of that belief and the competative need to be succesful, I had to analize policies of the competition... SM/Aces being one of the ones I thought I had to compete against myself. The point of all this is that we could not justify matching a no juice Friday or 20% signup bonusses for wise guy accounts. Conclusion? If it seems too good to be true... it probably is (I lost more than 8 dimes when the doors closed Friday morning). Also, if it seems too good to be true I should examine my own greed factor for it is only my greed that made me open an account with sign up bonusses, no juice days, and silly numbers that can easily be spread. Just the honest truth here and a little bit of looking in my own mirror... Chester

    Chester,

Since you personally know Charlie and JR, is it your opinion that they will disappear with every cent they can or will partial payments be made to customers? (i.e., are they thieves or just bad business men)

mls, I'm glad you asked the question that I wanted to know. Whether these guys just file for bankruptcy and walk away, or try and pay back their debts, will tell what kind of guys they really are.

I can say this... I am personally not doing very well financially right now (I spent all my money on crazy life, latin chicks, and some stupid gambling in the casinos and sportsbooks). I called these guys and told them I needed 3 dimes of my 10 or so. They called me back on wednesday and told me to come by thursday. I did and they gave me my check. The next day the news hit. They didn't have to pay me a dime and I have only been a peer to them in this business. I have had no personal relationship with them and do not feel that they like me more than someone else. I just told them I had been screwing up lately and needed the cash to pay my already 2 weeks late rent. The point... I would bet that if they could, they would do almost anything to make things right. I don't know when they saw that they needed to get desperate or what led them to make the obviously poor decisions they made the last few years. Still, they had enough heart to pay me the 3 dimes when they clearly didn't have to and probably need it now way more than I did. Bottom line, when it comes to humans, no one really knows what anyone will do...

Chester ... at least you got some tangible benefit from the dough you have spent

But on a more serious note, I hope that check is good (I am sweating a much larger check clearance from them right now) ...
