Sunspots and updates?

What is the real story on sunspots? Is this an excuse for problems in a book or is it real? You never hear of anyone else having these problems.

Also, more books do more upgrades these days. You would think that they would have the most advanced software in the world once they finished all these "updates". What's the deal?

Both can be real or made-up. Sun Spots do cause disturbances but not nearly as much as the books would like everyone to think. Sometimes they use sunspots as an excuse for an outage they cant explain. Updates in places I've worked are rare, and usually the managers say to tell everyone that an update is in process to explain another problem that they don't want to alarm customers about.
