Eight Bombs Explode in Colombia
BOGOTA-- Eight bombs exploded Tuesday at commercial establishments of a gambling house in the Colombian city of Medellin, but caused no injuries.
The bombs, each made up of one kilogram of dynamite, exploded in Betancur Bros. Gambling House and neighboring buildings in Medellin and in the headquarters of the company in nearby cities of Envigado and Itagui.
The authorities blamed the country's biggest rebel forces, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), for the attacks. They said the FARC had committed the same acts in other gambling houses when the owners abstained from paying for protection.
These explosions occurred at the time when the government is defining a strategy to face threatens from the rebel group which are aimed at pressing municipal officials to resign.
