Based on what criteria do Books make it on the DB screen.

If money is the criteria maybe DB should come up with some criteria that qualifies a book to be eligible. (People automatically believe that if a book is on DB they are solid and credible. This may be a false perception, and DB should not allow this.)

I for one hate seeing copycat books with mirror image lines but also would not want to see a book that is so out of wack that is not credible but are believed to be credible just because they are on the best.

How do you get on Don Best? Politics---for the most part. It's all in who you know. If you know the right people you could have been open for three weeks and they will put you up there because someone was a friend of Dana Corbo's father (Caribi being an example of a book that did not come off the screen until the end...)

There are MANY very deserving books that are up on that screen, BetWWTS, WSEX, Olympic, and on and on....but DB isn't pristine when it comes to their criteria for the Premium Feed...

People have been saying they should have a set of standards for a long time. Nothing ever seems to get done about it. It's nearly impossible for anyone to actually verify how much money a book has on hand.

Don Best is a line service.

Any player that assumes that because a book is on the Don Best line service, they are solid or safe is mistaken. It's not a myth started by Don Best but by the players.

The job of a line service is to provide lines.

True, it's nice to be able to say a book has been on Don Best without any complaints, much in the same way it's nice to be able to say a book has been with bettorsworld with no complaints.

But again, a line service provides lines.

If I know a book has every wiseguy on earth playing into it, I don't really care how solid they are. I want their line. Their line can help me gain the edge I need.

Dunes and Caribi come to mind. Both stiffed players, but both had valuable lines.

Don Best has always advertised that only the cream of the crop sportsbook are allowed to list with them.

When Caribi was in trouble and not paying their post-up players this same Jeff posted the fallowing messages at this website on behalf of Caribi and Don Best;

"Caribi Sportsbook has announced that a complete restructure of their parent company Research Capital, is now under way. Over the next 30 days WinMark Holdings will become the managing partner for Caribi's Costa Rica operation. The day-to-day business operation will not be affected. "


This gave players the FALSE immpression the everything was fine their despite the fact players were not getting paid.

This message enabled Caribi to commit outright FRAUD by taking in new clients and placing bets when post-up players where not being paid. At the time Caribi was millions in the hole.

During months of No-Pay Don Best kept Caribi on the screen and not only that but had the fallowing endorsement on Caribi's website during much of this time:

"Only the top shops are listed on the Don Best screen. Caribi is a tremendous part of an elite group of offshore sports books that set the industry standards" Don Best Sports

This Don Best policy of enabling, promoting and encouraging the stealing of players money in this instance was utter horseshit. To try to justify it by any means is lowest that one can go.

Don Best has tried to maintain a cream of the crop in its Premium Feed, but they aren't unbiased. The Caribi AND Dunes situation was bad because it involved personal ties to friends of Dana Corbo and his father and promises and deals made behind the scenes.

I think they learned from this though and wouldn't do the same thing again. They did get a lot of negative attention at the time.

As for the statements about Caribi, even books in Costa Rica (who were owed large sums of money too) were believing the had other funding coming in, and at one time they did. It just fell through.

Monty was a very respected guy with a lot of ties to the industry. No one could believe he was in the hole.

I agree with you that they are a lines service first

But they are more than that today.

Why else would people pay a premium price for a premium service.

Parlay King: Why else would people pay a premium price for a premium service? I believe this was your question and rightfully so a good question. Don best offers a lot of great things to help one handicape sporting events. But, as you said the main pupose is to provide a line service. The reason people, including me, pay a premium price for there service is because it is the fatest and best producet available. Many bettors have it turned on at all times with the sounds on so they will immediately know any major line move.

I am sure Don Best does the best they can to know the sportsbooks on there site are solid. The last few years, we have all been surprised by some major sports books faliures.

As far a putting up new services, Bw does the same thing with services they think are solid. BW does a great job as a watchdog for us, but even 'The List' isn't bullet proof.

Back to Don Best listings, the Wall Street Journal list all the Stocks and Bonds. Are they bullet proof, no.

The best way as a group of players to know which Books are in trouble is by communicating thru this forum, BW.

The message on Caribis website was left over from when they WERE a cream of the crop outfit. Tough to get someone to take down a logo or endorsement on the net these days. We know this from the bettorsworld approved logos some books still use against our wishes.......

Again, a line service provides lines.

Players need to do their homework and make educated decisions. Can't rely on one source. Caribi is an instance where we (BW) were months ahead of the industry in getting the word to our visitors. I'm sure some took that warning and stayed away, despite the message about restructing on Don Best.

While I stayed away from them, I had no objection whatsoever, as a player, to them still being there. His LINE was still useful to me as a player.

Perfect example is Jazz. The Jazz line still means something. If it can be used to help obtain an edge, it belongs on a line service. Doesn't mean I have to play there.......
