Continuing with our interview series, we had a talk with New Age Bets' Bill Gerung and asked him some of the more pressing questions facing the industry today. BWorld: What preparations has New Age Bets made for football season to handle the anticipated increase in handle?
NAB: New Age Bets recently completed our move from Margarita to a much larger office facility in Costa Rica. Our main goal is security, solid wagering software and perfect customer support. This move enables us to provide that and much more. In addition, we launched our new Casino in early August. This casino is integrated with our current system meaning only 1 account is needed for everything.
BWorld: New Age Bets has been open for business for several years now, and has a stellar reputation. What strategy did you use to get to where you are today?
NAB: From day one we had 3 major goals. 1 – security for our clients, 2 – A fast modern wagering environment and 3 – the best possible customer service. Existing customers refer most of our new customers to us. That says a lot. New Age Bets has a solid support structure to enable us to provide such outstanding service.
BWorld: What do you think of the recent crackdowns by the credit card companies on Internet Gaming charges?
NAB: That’s an interesting question. Our initial response was “they can’t do that” However, there are a number of people who abuse certain privileges, credit being one of them. The credit card companies need to protect their bottom line like any other business. We offer our customers the easiest payment and withdrawal methods available including Neteller, Securebuxx, Western Union, Certified Checks etc.
BWorld: With PayPal starting to phase out gambling payments (service stops for NY customers Sept. 1), what is New Age Bets going to focus on to ensure the future of the post-up business? Do you feel NETeller is a solid funding source?
NAB: Yes. Neteller is a solid company and we have a number of clients who use them exclusively. We also offer many other deposit and withdrawal methods including Securebuxx, Western Union, Certified Checks etc.
BWorld: What does New Age Bets offer the betting public that can't be found elsewhere? Do you have any new wagering opportunities or contests to attract the football fan?
NAB: We offer more teasers and props than any book online. Due to the over saturation in this space, many prospective clients have been turned off by the “less professional”, shall we say, books and casinos out there. We have a solid base of customers and are growing every day. The nice thing about running an honest business that is well respected by the leaders in the industry is that people hear about you from a number of sources. We worked hard on building that trust and people see that.
BWorld: You set your own lines, in other words you don’t clone from other books or a lines feed. How do you feel about this practice and the growing concern that this could be a big reason for books going under?
NAB: We’ve been known to offer solid lines to our customers and that’s one of the reasons people play with us. There are operations out there that will continue to clone. We can’t do anything about what other companies see as good policy. All we can do is continue to offer our customers the best available wagering experience online..period.
BWorld: What do you think about baseball’s recent announcement about financial troubles, teams not being able to finish the season, and the pending strike on Aug. 30? Would you still consider baseball America’s pastime?
NAB: Baseball will always be America’s pastime. It offers so many good wagering opportunities and the game itself is fascinating. Regarding the possibility of them not finishing the season due to money problems. This would be a big blow to the fan out there that spends $50 to see a game and $6 for a beer. We hope they complete the season and negotiate in the off-season.
