An AMAZING series will end tonight, that's for sure. What isn't for sure is the outcome. Pedro looked a little shaky in Oakland in Game 1 and got a ND. Zito had his curveball working and got the win. The problem is that Boston has never been so close to something so special. They win tonight and they face the dreaded Yankees for a spot in the Fall Classic. Are the Red Sox going to get their bats going today against Zito, who, didn't have close to his record from 2001 only going 14-12 this season? Are the A's feeling dejected about BLOWING the chance to advance?
Since 2001 Pedro is 2-1 with 2 no decisions at Oakland while Zito is 4-1 against Boston at home. The A's sported the best home record at 57-24 while Boston was 42-39 on the road. In all honesty, Oakland has looked dominant against the Sox but seem to be playing the "little brother" role. You know, as an older brother might let his younger brother win a game or two, but then the older brother is actually surprised when the kid starts beating him when he tries. The fact that these games are so close is stunning considering Miguel Tejada and Eric Chavez are a COMBINED 2-27!!!! Will they turn it around against one of the top 10 greatest pitchers of the last 20 years? We don't think so.
We also don't believe in playing GOD!! 0-8 in series clinchers is pretty bad...no...VERY bad!! There is too much pressure on Oakland to win and they are starting a pitcher that finished 2003 2 games over .500.
We like Boston to WIN and go to the ALCS against the Yankees!!!
Good luck,
