There was the 1982 "Snow Plow Game," also against the Dolphins, when the Patriots played in then-Schaefer Stadium. The Dec. 12 day was cold and icy, the playing surface as much of an ice rink as it was a football field. Only 25,716 were in attendance and when the Ron Meyer-coached Patriots set up a potential winning field goal, a convict on work leave, Mark Henderson, was summoned from the sideline to clear a spot on the field for kicker John Smith. When Smith made the kick, there were two heroes: Smith and Henderson.
