Montreal Canadiens -1/2 -145 over the Pittsburgh Penguins---early game, starts at 1pm
The Canadiens have a decent 20-16-5 record this year and have been playing really well lately, they just had a 5 game unbeaten streak snapped when they lost 4-1 vs Tampa on Thursday night. Pittsburgh is the worst team in the NHL and are a very pathetic 10-24-5....they have the fewest wins in the league right now. Pittsburgh has no stars in their lineup now that Mario Lemieux is gone for the year and the team is made up of a bunch of no-name youngsters that would have trouble making any other team in the NHL. Pittsburgh's powerplay is 27th and their penalty killing is 28th in a league made up of 30 teams. Pittsburgh's home record is 7-10-3 and Montreal's road record is 8-8-2. The Penguins seem to play some of the very top teams in the league well but they don't bring the same effort against the mid-level, above average teams such as the Canadiens. Montreal has won both games against them this year and they dominated in both of them...they recently won 4-1 on december 22nd and they also won 4-1 when they met in October. Montreal has always played really well vs Pittsburgh the past few years and their starting goalie Jose Theodore holds a dazzling 10-3-1 record against them in 14 career starts vs the Penguins. Theodore is playing really good hockey and hot goaltending always wins games in the NHL....he gave up only 1 goal in 5 straight games before the 4-1 loss to tampa bay. He won the Vezina trophy for best goalie in the NHL in 2002 and he's playing very similar right now. I just can't see a pathetic Pittsburgh offense scoring much on Theodore during this game.....look for Theodore to shut down the Penguins and continue his dominance over them, Monteal will come ready to play after being embarassed by Tampa the other night, they warrant a play here in my opinion.....i see 3-1 or 4-1 win for Monteal. I don't feel as strongly about this play as i did with Ottawa over Toronto the other night but its still a very solid situation.......good luck to everyone.
